Where do I get some water to drink at the outpost?

if you open the map with M you can see water areas fairly easily

If you are still on the tutorial part of the game the dwarf should mark on the map where to go. he should direct you to two different ponds, all you need to do is look at the water and it should prompt you with the key/button you need to press to collect it. You can do this as many times as needed.
