MAGE AND RANGER
Why in a beta release there is no mage or range unlock levels? it should be a basic unlock to test it out... only mele can be test out with higher levels... so when can we have an unlock lvl for mages and rangers?

this isn't a beta.
what does Early Access mean to you?
Says in the roadmap and skill tree that its a Work in progress. Just go melee with a shield. Play around. Gather stuff. Horde materials. Wait for more content :)
Where does it say it's beta? It says Early Access, that's not Beta. This is more of a work in progress alpha build.
It says Beta when you log in on the main menu.

Anyways even without the skill tree Ranged and Magic are actually really good atm.

It does say Beta on the Title screen.

This is early access, and technically you still can test out Mage and Range. You can't level the skills right now beyond RNG Tomes that give XP in the skills, but the weapons and armor are still craftable and usable. Honestly Magic feels absolutely strong right now even without Skill boosts like Melee has, but Range does feel a little lackluster with no abilities to help it. It's very Sniper-centric in that, you need to be precise with charged shots, and if you miss or have too many enemies, you better have a back-up class ready like Magic or Melee to take up some AoE.

We can still use them though, that's what matters. It's still pretty solid and fun. Very satisfying to get a 1HKO headshot on something with a longbow.

Beta is when the game is content complete and is ready for bug testing and balance adjustments.
Alpha is when it is not yet content complete.

Those have been the industry standard definitions for decades. They can label it whatever they want, but if it's not content complete, it's not in Beta. Most EA games are in an Alpha state.

Beta doesn't mean content complete nor has it ever. Alpha builds are usually the first testing phase that tests the core-game itself whether it be networking, core mechanics, and performance-based integrity.
Beta is the testing phase that tests out everything else currently available. The game doesn't even have to be fully content complete to be beta, it just has to be structurally sound or nearing its ending development phases before launch. Betas are usually for finding the minor or major bugs anywhere in the game. Judging by the fact that Jagex is predicting the game will be ready to launch in a year, I'd say that fits the description fine

Regardless of the tag, it's still just Early Access, which doesn't necessarily mean Alpha or Beta, but early access to the game, whether it be before certain other people, or before it's launch (in this case before launch).

No. Beta testing is just for bug fixing, polish, balance, and optimization, not for content development and core mechanics. This has become a common misconception in the gaming industry over the past decade. The game is missing core mechanics and core content. It is absolutely not in Beta. When core mechanics are still in development, it's still in Alpha. Developers misrepresenting their products has perverted player's perception of what an Alpha and Beta are. Some devs even slap a 1.0 on their incomplete products and then sell you the rest later as a DLC. Their marketing strategy does not change the definition of those terms.

Dude no I'm sorry you're wrong lol. That only applies to software other than video games. Literally you can look up the phrase "Meaning of beta testing for games" and you can find about 20 different things that say you're wrong. It's not a developer-side skewing of the definition, it's just a different use of the word depending on what you're applying it to.

I've been crowdfunding in-dev games for years, and have had access to numerous Alphas, Betas, EAs, and even got to help create a few games. Trust me it's not what you think it is lol.

What you're referring to is applied to software, like Photoshop for example. Betas for software that aren't games tend to be based around content-complete tests.

Even for EA this seems underbaked. Why put magic an bowsin the game at all if not going to get xp from them to improve them

The actual definition is:
Beta
‘Beta’ is a standard term to denote a milestone release during production in which game functionality is included and optimised (but may have bugs), game content is finished (but may have some implementation errors), and which is considered nearly complete. Beta represents the sum total of what the game will be, and content or functionality changes beyond beta are usually considered to be outside the framework of a publishing contract (called ‘change control’).

Beta are preceded by prototype, pre-alpha, (sometimes) vertical slice and alpha milestones. They are followed by release candidate and gold master milestones.

Online publishers often release beta software to the public as what is called an ‘open beta’. Open betas invite customers to play the game, report any issues that they find and participate in the community surrounding the game ahead of launch. Open betas are also often a great way to engage players with a marketing story early on.

So if core mechanics are missing it's definitely Alpha.

P.s That's the normal way of things, but the new norm is to release everything as Early Access and dish out any form slop some beta some alpha some just broken beyond belief and which I lack any true definition for. Then make you pay for it while you help them fix it usually for the next several years.

Magic is plenty strong on its own already, did majority of the game with mage.
