yes game will be going to console if it ever makes it that far, whole point of using Epic for online service
Also, they did not add epic games account requirement to add a online service. Steam has this system already available and cross play is already possible in many games that do not require extra account systems.
The only reason you need an epic account is because it is also on the epic game store + they are lazy. There are countless games that are on multiple PC storefronts that let you play with other platforms without an extra account.
Epic also have a history of paying devs to implement or have exclusivity, but I doubt this is the case this time.
Except its not on the Epic game store?
You're not reading my properly, Your Epic Online Service is for CROSSPLAY COMPATIBILITY, Steam DOES NOT support Cross PLATFORM, MEANING PS5 Xbox PC. You have to use a service like EPIC ONLINE SERVICE to run cross platform locally hosted game server.
Has nothing to do with multiple storefronts on PC. Steam itself does not cross platform without another service.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_that_support_cross-platform_play
Did not know it wasn't on the epic game store, that is my bad.
I do want to clarify however I didn't mean steam provided crossplay support, I meant steam has a multiplayer system and it was already possible to have a game with crossplay connecting each game. In those situations they do not directly use steams multiplayer system but it does use accounts for things like names and saves (EG armor/stats/ect)
The use of an epic games account, knowing this is not on the epic games store, is now even more annoying.
You don't need a service like epic's service to enable cross play. There are many games on steam that have cross play but do not require you to make a separate account and not just big titles like call of duty, even indie games often have crossplay with no account required.
Other users have pointed out that some content (the cape and such) are not in the game unless you are linked to an epic account + connected online. This could change, but its currently a thing.
TLDR: Yes its not on epic store my bad, however a seperate account should not be required as other games have cross play and do not need it. This includes indie games, not just big corps.
Annoying, however explains things.
