please explain because I have SEVERAL full runs in Valhiem(600hr) and I have 10+ hr in RSDW and I dont find them similar at all. Sure they have combat and crafting, so do 5,000 other games.
I just need 3 examples that aren't every other survival game.
Where and what did they copy?
Food doesn't even give you more HP or STAM. So that wasn't a copy.
Terraforming, RSDW doesn't have. Enshrouded Doesn't have. Valheim does.
None of the mobs are copied.
You use resources to build your house? Like every survival? Did it copy minecraft?
Sure there are a lot of similar elements, but copies? no way. RSDW would be better if it DID copy.
The gameplay loop isn't even copied. RSDW doesn't have a biome boss you need to kill to progress. RSDW has a SET map that will never change unless they redesign.
sure valheim has a skill system, but OSRS, RSC, both had a skill system before that, and they're not even close to the same. RSDW skill level unlocks abilities. Valheim skill system barely does anything.
Is the inventory the same size on the 2 games? where is the copy?
And its a symptom for the fact that this was not what many did hope and expected from this publisher. This is what I think, and if you think otherwise all is good c:
It just really is a lot like Valheim in design, in gameplay, even the way the tiers work.
The only spin is that it has RuneScape aspects, skills, and a 20x better building system and progression flow.
In my opinion, it's better than Valheim right out the gate, even with Valheim going on its *checks Store Page* 4th year of Early Access.
Valheim may have more content, but even after 4 years the game still feels clunky.
Meanwhile RS DragonWilds feels really smooth (at least to my experience).
That being said. It is just a better Valheim. Love or hate the comparison, that is what it is.
I love needing to Eat and drink so I don't die but crafting food gives little to no bonuses like +MaxHp and +MaxStam
The tier progression is the same as ANY game. has nothing to do with Valheim. Valheim does it better, you gear up in the biome to defeat the biome boss. He drops the thing you need to progress in the next biome. Eikthyr dropping the antler pick to then be able to mine copper and tin. What do we have in RSDW? NOTHING. You gear up to then enter another zone to gear up again. Do this 5x and you're at the boss, a. single. dragon.
Terraforming is non-existent.
Procedural Generation is non-existent.
Set map you play one time and know everything.
Ore nodes will ALWAYS be in the same place and they will ALWAYS respawn.
RSDW dungeons are all the same mobs throughout all the zones. Guess what. They all have the same reward! Guess what again, that reward respawns and you can just walk in there and grab it again.
Valheim doesn't have 24 years of backbone set out by RSC RS2-RS3-OSRS
tell me why we can't follow the progression already laid out in 24-years.
Why rewrite the progression path if we're putting the title RUNESCAPE onto it?
Guys the base building is literally a default UE base building, its nothing special. Its seen in several several several games, and this game didn't add to it. There isn't much you can do, and the "fancy" stuff like barrels serve no purpose but decoration. Its a barrel, let me store stuff in it.
Your comparisons of Valheim to RSDW is the same as Escape from Tarkov to Call of duty.
they both have guns, you can die and respawn. must be copied.
Mobs die and explode into resources identical to Valheim.
You learn new recipes by finding new materials. Like Valheim.
Progression is linear. One tier of resources leads to unlocking the next. Kinda like Valheim minus the bosses.
Skills improve with use.
Demolishing buildings gives all resources back
Being Hunted.
Random base raids
Shields negate damage like Valheim
Timed Parries. Valheim
Workbench augmentations.
I could probably go on and on with the similarities.
Some things that where half ass copied were a mistake. The food and drink system in this game sucks compared to Valheim. No Farming or at least I didn't get far enough to farm yet. The rest system in this game is a weak imitation of Valheim's.
Which brings us to the deco items. Worthless as of now since there is no comfort bonus like Valheim. The cooking also pales in comparison. No way to burn your steaks here. Fires work in the rain. No need to vent smoke. Which is a shame. One of the reasons I loved Valheim so much was it inspired me to build things I didn't need like bridges and it was all thanks to the comfort system.
Nothing against this game. Is it good? Yes, I like it. Does it scratch that Valheim itch? Sure does. Is it going to take Valheim's crown? LOL hell no. At least not in my eyes.
It is hard to argue that this game isn't Fantasy Kingdom Valheim similar to Enshrouded. That's how I perceive them and I imagine I'm not alone.
Which is fine by me. I wish more would copy the formula. Looking forward to more devs spin on the formula as well.
Post apocalyptic Valheim
Zombie Plague Valheim
Modern Day Valheim
Looking forward the most for the futuristic space Valheim. I built enough docks, buildings, and bridges. Time to build spaceships.
I imagine we'll get one Valheim for every genre. Fingers crossed!
