Roofing sucks
In general building and finishing roofs are a pain in the butt, Why do every developer who does anything in this genre just copy/paste building ideas from other games and actually fix the problem. You make a regular shaped building then start attaching roof parts and you get stability issues and general attachment problems it's so frustrating when building larger areas.

Agreed. stability is too punishing/restrictive. This isnt an architect simulator, its a game and supposed to be fun. But the constant restrictive and annoying stability system ruins building. Any house over 2 stories we end up having to fill up with support beams going all over the place just to get it to work...and sometimes it STILL doesnt work.
Vertical beams ftw. And I agree for the most part
See, I'm not the only complaining about the roofing's. I've got everything laid out equally, from beams, walls, etc,. Roofing just down right sucks, the constant of "unstable". I'm able to lay out 3 roofs on the right side, but left side I can only lay 2 because for some unknown reason, its "unstable" once I get to the 3rd part. Doesn't make sense to me.
Its a bit tricky but the best results I've experienced so far need the vertical beam to start in the ground, this can be done using ground and floor tiles and vertical beams in a scaffolding structure to place it in the right spot. Only the top part of the vertical beam need to be visible the rest be gone in the ground

Good luck

Omg roofing does not need to be this complex and we dont care that much about the style angle and degrees of these roofs sheesh
I've built 7 different bases in the game and have had no issues with "stability".

Try using anything that says "supports", "foundation", or "beams".

Remember that the "Roof supports" in the walls section are super helpful to build first before actual roofs.
Also remember that building foundations as your ground layer add a ton of stability to the build, minimizing the "unstable" issues.
Beams and poles are really good to use as center supports for really tall builds
If you can't make a REALLY tall build with 1 room, break it up into floors or add thick beams and supports.

There's not much complexity in the building system, just remember these few tips. Again I've never encountered the "unstable" error before, but this is just my take-away from borrowing tips I've used in other survival crafters.

@Rose Brigade Good tips, thank you.
They need an ability to raise/lower the foundation pieces like with a mouse wheel scroll or something. The choices right now seem to be "flush with ground" or "entire foundation piece" floating just above ground. From there the "snap to" math takes care of the rest.

Icarus' building system had this and it was very cool.

Hold control with mouse wheel to raise or lower a building piece, and hold alt with mouse wheel to move in/out. Although you cant move the piece out very much. The problem is like you mentioned the foundations tend to snap into the ground, so we cant always raise or lower it exactly where we want.

yep, great building tool, but like in rl, make sure u got a great foundation, beams in the ground , everything foundation must be touching the ground, no prob for me
