When the game comes out of Early Access, will the characters be reset, or will they be kept?

There is no reason to reset characters. They are just stat numbers in a file. This is not an MMO. No matter how unbalanced the game is or potentially becomes, it won't matter since it's not a competitive MMO. Even if they change how a skill works, that does not require them to remove that skill from the player. It's not like we had points to spend and would have spent them differently if something was changed. Consider every single-player or co-op Survival Crafting game out there. How many of them forced character resets as a result of an update? The only ones that did are ones that involved spending level-up points. It would be different if this were a colony sim or something similar where you are in control of a tribe or something with logistic systems etc. Those types of games are much more likely to run into incompatibility issues after an update. Even if they throw away the entire map and make a new one, that would not require a character reset. Think of this like Valheim, where you can still play the first character you made when the game launched.

lol you cant compair to valheim its still early access. its best to assume its gonna get reset judging how other early access titles that come out of early access has been, this paragraph you wrote is a uninformed nothing burger

Once official servers come in I can see a wipe occuring, or maybe a change in how characters are made, maybe you'll have singleplayer characters and then online characters

Your character is saved locally. They can't delete it. Unless they went out of their way to make your save incompatible, it will not go away. You can't just assume that will occur because it happens in completely different kinds of games. I've been playing games in this genre for 20 years and what you are talking about almost never happens. Changes during the development of this kind of game don't require a reset unless they remake the skill system from the ground up, and even then it's possible to not reset. Even if they completely change how the melee skill works and progresses, that does not mean your level in that skill needs to change. Given how avoidable that is in this kind of game, and how detrimental it would be, I see no reason for it to happen.

It was not an "uninformed nothingburger". I've worked closely with devs helping alpha test and bug report for over a decade. I would like to introduce you to something called the Dunning-Kruger Effect. You have fallen into that stereotype.

local saved characters can easily not be compatible with new versions of the game and be locked out and again valheim is still in early access. its safe to assume there will be a reset including for runescape. I have valheim and it loads in your character yes to whatever map. That doesnt mean it will stay that way for the early access characters once it releases. So because you tested out games that means you know what will happen when games release...... rather then lookign at early access title history overall and following the trends of how things have been you think that testing for bugs in alpha stage makes you more informed on if they will reset or not? ok buddy

You are making a blind assumption with literally no data to back it up. Historical precedent does not support your uninformed guess.
