Can this be played solo offline without the account?
I'm not gonna create that POS account for anything.

I played solo - no extra account. The game actually tells you about it! If you want to play on any kind of multiplayer 'world' you need the extra account for 'web services'. Otherwise just make a character and make a 'local' world - so to put it. NO need for the extra account.

Also - game let's you set data sharing preferences - it is not difficult to do.
