You could focus on range attacks. The first staff is pretty insane.
You could focus on raising your skill levels. There is a combat perk that lets you keep a combo going even after a dodge.
You could focus on getting parry timing down.
You could use the magic shield more often.
You could flee more often.
You don't need the gear to survive this zone. If the tactics you tried don't work simply try new ones. Get out your comfort zone.
Enemies have tells. Pay attention and you can tell if they are going to do a double swing or single or perhaps a lunge like the rats. Parrying requires patience. Use a shield to tank hits and go on the offensive. Since you have a lodestone nearby if the dragon shows up take the ♥♥♥♥ off and teleport away. You can then hear him in the distance still attacking.
I hope the TLDR of this didn't come off as 'get gud' but its possible its a character skill issue and not a player skill issue. Corpse runs suck so always better to cut your losses and run. Something that also helped me is turning off sprint toggle in the game options. I prefer it to sprint on holding shift as this allows me to let go and reapply for a quick stamina refresher. The sprint toggle has gotten me killed.
Good luck and have fun.
Awesome advice thank you!
