RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Epic Online Services FAQ
A lot of people seem to be confused on what EOS even is. So here. And I know RuneScape: Dragonwilds isn't on Epic's launcher, but it might be at some point so a couple of these are for the potential future. Could go on Epic.. Jagex launcher.. Windows store.. Wherever they want. But thankfully Steam is first. I too don't like other launchers but I can see why they did this. Jagex should make an official pinned post about this.

What is Epic Online Services (EOS)?
Epic Online Services is an open set of tools and services that help game developers and publishers build their games. We use EOS to establish all peer-to-peer network connectivity between players regardless of firewalls or router setups across platforms. Using these tools also enables us to allow cross-play between the Steam and Epic versions of the game.

Do I need to have an Epic Games Account to connect to EOS?
No. No extra accounts are needed to be set up.

Will an Epic Games Account be created for me if I play online?
No.

By using EOS, what information do I share from my account?
The only data that is accessed is your public Steam ID.

Will this install or require an install of Epic Games Launcher on my Computer?
Nope.

What does making an EOS connection mean?
To play online in RuneScape: Dragonwilds you will need to connect to EOS either by using your public Steam ID, or optionally share the EOS connection between your steam ID and Epic Games Account.

No matter what option you pick you will always be able to find and play with your steam friends, and play cross-play via an in-game session ID.

If you choose to share the EOS connection between your steam ID and Epic Games Account you can be online on both accounts at once. Meaning, You will in addition to seeing your steam friends also be able to find your Epic and be able to join them in-game.

I want to unlink my account from EOS! How do I do that?
In the Main Menu go to Settings > Legal > Update EOS Settings

You will be prompted to unlink your EGS and/or Steam account (go offline). Doing this will give you the option to relink your accounts if you so choose.

Why didn’t you use Steamwork for connectivity?
Using steamworks to handle connectivity in the Steam version would also require us to maintain and bug track two completely different systems. Which would make progress slower for everyone and make new features slower to develop. It’s also not open for cross play, as it does not let players from other platforms play with anyone on Steam.

Feel free to correct any of this information if it's wrong but to my knowledge, it's not.

This is mostly taken from here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/526870/discussions/0/2299597907738984352
Satisfactory was a huge hit and after it was on Epic it migrated over to Steam and is still very popular.

Good luck and godspeed. If this post isn't enough to clear the confusion then people do not deserve to own video games.

There are so many games these people ALREADY play that use Epic Online Services under the covers (ex Hades, Among Us, and so many more), that its laughable when they see the reference to it here and freak out.

It does a lot more than just provide servers. For example; cross-progression.

why would you buy the game twice and play it on 2 different platforms. Redundant asf.
For MP games it can make sense.
Thanks for this...there is so much misinformation going around this. Some people go absolutely nuts and have all kinds of assumptions.

Lets the Hades developers tell you why; see below. I suspect EOS does a little more for the devs than you realize. Bottom-line; why reinvent the wheel when there is something out there that handles a bunch of stuff you need (and more), and lets you concentrate on YOUR game development?

A lot of people do that...?
I've bought Witcher 3 on Switch when I already own it on PC and have for years. It has cross progression saves.

Does Epic EOS meet the definition of spyware?

Yes.

Repeatedly. Acknowledged multiple times. Seen Epic paying fines for.

Let's stop pretending there isn't a valid issue here.

I don't know many people who do that, seems to me like a waste of money.

I mean, the main defining factor of spyware is that it sends the data without knowledge or consent of the target, and there's a big button when you boot the game up that asks if you want to use EOS and you have to consent before it'll do anything at all, so that's just categorically untrue.

Would love to see a source for these fines Epic has paid in regards to privacy violations with EOS, as that would certainly change my mind.

Why have many many many people bought GTA V multiple times on several platforms through the years? Because they wanted to
Some people just buy multiple copies of the games for different systems

I own Balatro on Steam and on mobile so I can scream at my phone whilst I nuke my toilet.
OP says this game is not on Epic Launcher but in the second paragraph mentions crossplay with Steam and Epic..... Bro double standard much ?
Is it, or is it not on Epic Launcher ?!
