RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

My current thoughts, coming from someone who played runescape for over 20+ years nonstop.
Grammar is going to suck deal with it.

I'm going to start off by listing something that I believe to be the very most important thing above ANY other thing. Coming from someone who's played Runescape for a very long time and have had multiple maxed accounts in Original Runescape classic, Runescape 2, Runescape 3, and Old school Runescape.

You REALLY need to make sure the content is as close as you can be to 100% of the game on PC. I.e Names/skill names/towns (new areas are okay but we need some original content) we need to be able to enjoy this game as a different branch from original Runescape as if classic Runescape was brought into the world of the future 1st person.

I doubt anyone from Jagex will see this post but I pray you stick to original game in terms of the content you release, the game is already great but do not stray from the path of a 20+ year old game that's already proven successful. You're not Valheim or anyone else you're Runescape Dragonwilds, an extension of Runescape on PC with a twist and you're sucked into this world instead of watching it from above. Please be extremely careful how you proceed. I've played every single Mmorpg that's been released since around 1995 and this game has the capabilities of being better than Palworld or Valheim or enshrouded because it's you're own thing. but if you start taking away the Runescape aspects it could turn into a failure people 6 months from now won't even think about.

Now Lets get into the stuff I either don't like, think needs improvement or generally is not "Okay" with me in some way.

--The Hunger and thirst is a bit crazy because of how fast the drain is and there's no way to increase the stats or at-least at this moment consume food that slows down the drain.
Rain also doesn't increase your water, or slow it down.

--If you die, which causes you to lose items, you should respawn with full food and water if you aren't going to remove the stat entirely

--When monsters are attacking you or starting a combo against you their hits lock on like aimbot, and even if you are physically out of range of their attack it still hits you. This needs to be addressed.

--The spell Windstep, I understand being able to jump once per activation, but the slow fall should be permanent until you actually land on something. the fact it just stops mid flight and you fall to your death defeats the purpose of it.

--Axtral Projection, this one cuts down trees. Thats it. Why not combine this with the other one that turns trees into logs instead of having a spell that just cuts them down. I understand one cuts down and 1 turns into logs but it's seems like a waste to have 2 spells for that.

--I Don't like this stone pickaxe/hatchet, That's not original, take it away, and force a tutorial part that shows you how to mine tin/copper to make a bronze Axe/Pick axe. This would look much better even if it performed exactly like the stone variants.

--Allow the worlds to be customizable, make it more difficult or easy, or story friendly give us sliders on drop rates and spawn rates ETC

--I like us having combos with our primary attacks using spells but i think we should also have standard spells like runescape. Fire bolt/air bolt/water bolt/strike/blast ETC. Give people the additional option to be a real mage and not some dungeon crawling mob killer and feel more genuine. can make animations looks bigger and better as your magic levels goes up and you use higher tier of those spells.

--Cooking needs to absolutely be revamped. Instead of having this combination thing to make redberry cookies and other weird stuff. there should just be preset stuff you can cook, with a chance of burning, Or a chance like the cooking skill gives as possibly making that item heal more?

--Revamp cooking, get rid of thirst and hunger, food will now heal you instead of feed you.

--If im stuck in a eating/drinking animation and I try to dodge roll, that should interrupt and skip the animation but it doesn't once we eat/drink we're forced to do that until it's finished no matter what we do.

--Spellbook section should be for the above mentioned "Spells" when magic skill is released, those things in there are skills not spells. I know it's confusing what I just said but this is one of those things of you going off the beaten path trying to be unique the type of thing that could derail and entire section of the game. I know you're the big bad company making it, but this kinda thing gonna kill the game especially when half of the "skills" don't work the way they should

--Runecrafting is barely okay. I like how unique it is to get the rune essence, but I feel like there should be more of them and also that when you're making runes, higher level runes should require more ess per rune, or less runes per ess. however u wanna do it. Again another thing of you trying to be unique you already have a 20+ year old formula that's been extremely successful stick to it please we all love it.

That's about all the stuff I can think about at the moment i've only played 4 hours of this game but overall I really like it, the only last warning i would give if anyone from Jagex ever read this is, the more you steer away from runescape origins and trying to make your own thing, the more it gets compared to other games which isn't a good thing. but overall i'm happy i love it and support it as long as some changes are made.

Great suggestions , I really would like to see the hunger/thirst removed as well and have food give buffs instead. Dunno why games still adapt this simple mechanic , its an annoyance and there is no benefit from being full either.

A lot of those gathering spells just feel like gimmicks , such long cooldowns and long animations, Needless waste of time , speed them up and give them no cooldowns. Up the rune cost and let the player decide if they want to waste runes or time. The conversion ones are fine with cooldowns ,but still a bit long to be honest.

They should just make it a toggle not remove it. I personally enjoy the food/water mechanic.

Some of the more advanced foods do give buffs. Also, once you reach the Fractured Plains you gain access to copper (probably tin too but I haven't lived long enough to find it yet).

Edit: Also, thank you for taking the time to write an actually constructive post rather than the rabid frothing at the mouth others seem to be posting upon realizing this doesn't play like the MMOs (because it isn't an MMO of course).

Mostly good comments from the OP and I would add that I came to the forum looking for some way to reduce or even turn off food and thirst. It's far too much work as it is now. I am always thirsty, hungry or tired and sometimes some combination of all 3 and I have to spend ages investing into getting all of them full before heading out for any length of time. When you rest you use your food so that needs redoing each time you sleep and it's just obnoxious. Water weighs a lot so I stashed much of it in a chest and then without appreciating it used 'F' to refill stacks and stored all my personal supply as well. I went out for stuff all time and ran out of clean water up a hill with no water around. I know that was my fault but it's just annoying. Annoying things in games drive people away. It's turning me off.
I don't actually mind food and drink etc as a rule but there must be ways for your character to develop so that those sorts of things become less of a focus as you progress. From reading the posts here, apart from a minor tweak with some better foods and buffs it remains a PITA for the duration.
I am barely a few hours into the game and already I am entirely sick of the excessive food and drink mechanic.

Also the OP mentions the eating animation but I think all actions need to be uninterruptible. Being committed to a slow animation and unable to react to a new situation instantly is bothersome at best and deadly at worst.

Cheers.

I think the only major issues are food/water drain and enemies just need to be fixed aimbot spam and enemies being able to sprint through water at you is ridiculous, nothing slows them down, theres should be no locking on, every creature except the deer acts like the bloody terminator also maybe the sever stability needs on housing

There is tons of food that gives buffs and the gathering spells are literall gamechangers in the mid-/late-game. Agreed on the cooldowns though, glad they didn't add it on the jump skill though. Runecost is ignorable anyway, as you can craft runes by the thousands.

if anything, I don't see a real point in the conversion ones. Peaches serve no purpose and I have more bones than I know what to do with already.

sounds like a bug, as in my game mobs do get slowed down in water/poison
