The game uses Epic Online Services (entirely different to the EGS) to manage the servers, and that service has an account system that is automatically managed when you use the service.
You don't need to make an account, it does it for you if you don't have one.
You won't need to ever login to it, it's only used by EOS to authenticate you when you join servers, or fetch your username/picture for the game to display in the in-game friends list.
yeah okay dude. they lock you into an INTERNAL platform. you so smart.
Like I said above, an EAS/EOS account (which is what the game uses) is not the same as an Epic Games Store account. You can't use your EAS/EOS account to login to the Epic Games Store, and you don't need an account on the Epic Games Store to play Dragonwilds. In fact, you can't manually create an EAS/EOS account anyway.
This is probably part of their deal for using Unreal Engine. Making users register with Epic is probably a small price to pay in exchange for lower fees to Epic.
1. Many games made without Unreal Engine use Epic Online Services.
2. Users do not register with Epic. Accounts are made automatically, you can't manually go sign up for an EOS account.
3. Assuming you mean Unreal Engine fees, that wouldn't make sense given the above two points.
You apparently don't know what Spyware and bloatware actually is.
Also, if Fortnite kids are playing this game it means they are on Steam already, buying games, they are already in these spaces even for games that use Steams multiplayer system only.
I am fully aware what spyware and bloatware is. Epic is both. That's my opinion, and it is good that it is also factual (unwanted programs are both bloatware and spyware as default)
My entire point is they shouldn't be here? lol Keep the systems separate. If people want to use Epic they can go to that 'store'. No need to bring it here. Same is with all the other bloatware from e.g. Ubisoft.
Lol, the fact that you think unwanted programs means bloatware and Spyware prover even more that you don't know what either of those actually are.
Epic Online Services and Epic Store are 2 separated services, just like how Unreal Engine is also a separated service. EOS provides a huge amount of cross platform functions for PC, consoles, and mobile, and doesn't require the games to be on EGS at all. It's a middleware like any other middleware, like speed tree or FMOD for example, that is designed to provide specific functions for a game.
EOS is currently the only servicel like it, providing everything needed for cross platform functionality, which is why it's use is growing fast.
It's corporate over reach for Epic to provide a service that dev/pubs can choose to use? Really?
No, it's merely I have a perspective that differs from yours (and mine is the correct one).
I am well aware those are separate services? Doesn't mean they should be allowed on the games on steam. Just like Ubisoft's store connection shouldn't be allowed either. It's bloatware. Plain and simple.
No one cares if EOS is the only service like it. Good for them? Doesn't mean I want their 'services' (bloatware and spyware) anywhere near my PC.
What you don't understand is people can dislike and not want someones bloatware or spyware on their PC. Even if it has a 'legitimate' reason. Anti cheat is both bloatware and spyware, by any real metric, and gamers don't want it. I have firm policy not to buy games that has Denuvo for the same reason.
It's why I voice here to Jagex directly. I'm willing to pay for the game, full price even. But not if they use this "service" as you call it. Their options are: A: Ignore me and others. B: If enough people voice they refuse to buy due to X, they will explore and find an alternative solution. E.g. use steam services.
No one actually cares about cross platform, you know? Especially not those who would play Runescape to begin with... which primarily are.. you know... 25+ and even older. People who care about cross platform are those that play a game on their phone or their pc... fortnite kids... which is not the audience.. and those people don't play games (which is why they shouldn't be here).
Basically, Jagex are doing a poor move, in my opinion. Though, it is true, sadly, that most people do not care about Epic games and their spy and bloatware. Which is a darn shame.
You're not going to convince anyone here about your Epic fetish. But you are allowed to have it.
Well, when it's done I'll guess I'll sail the seas and play it solo or make my own server.
Also, sidenote, holy hell you are one who likes the sausage of Tim, LOL.
I feel like I'm talking to a flat earther, people who created their own "science" that doesn't match reality, you decided to create your own definitions that doesn't match reality.
Going by your non reality logic, Steam is bloatware and Spyware too because many other people don't want it.
