Because it's set in the same universe.
Same as other games, even if it's not the same as the original genre. It's not that an uncommon of a thing to happen in gaming.

yeah i guess so. although it feels alot like using "runescape" as clickbait for a new game. but ill have to wait and see.

i am curious as to why they chose to name it runescape:dragonwilds, i think Gielinor: dragonwilds would make more sense.

It's set on a yet unseen landmass within Gielinor, so it'd be weird to not say this is a runescape game, set in the runescape universe, in the very world we've all played in, so.

I've not seen it advertised as anything other than a coop survival crafting game set in the RuneScape universe - because that's exactly what it is! Skilling, dragons, survival, cabbages. All the good stuff.

I agree the "Runescape" in the title is doing a lot of heavy lifting at this point, will have to see how "Runescapey" it feels, which btw is the important thing it doesn't matter to me personally if it's set in Runescapes lore/lands if it doesn't feel like a Runescape game and is generic survival game I couldn't care less. From what I've seen videowise it looks very far from "Runescape". i also Understand it would be dumb not to use brand recognition. But it's a double edged sword imo look at dragonage veilguard, it didn't do amazing solely because they strayed from the original IP too far.

exactly! im only watching it BECAUSE its "runescape" if they take that feeling away then.... its just not runescape for me and i wont play it.

There's nothing misleading. It's set within the same game world as Runescape its just a different continent. It's runescape lore so idk what you want man. It's clearly a 1-4 coop and if you listened to randos on the internet about what this game was gonna be that's your fault not the devs fault.

Set in the world of runescape, so expect runes, same trees, same ores, likely a similar progression and family names and foes id bet. Maybe even mention of certain npcs.

But that's likely the reason, plus it draws in people who know runescape.
