No Epic no buy
If this doesn't come out on Epic first I'm not buying this.
Period.
So sick of this steam obsession as if you can't play a videogame if it's not on steam.

FFs i used to install my games from floppy and cereal box CDs now you have "gamers" throw a fit cause they don't get "achievements" in steam.

Disgusted by the devolution of gaming.

Unsure how this is any different than "if this is epic only i won't buy it"... Personally have both platforms installed and can't comprehend the negativity toward either, as if downloading a free application costs you a cent.

TLDR:
Mod Doom clarifies the requirement is because its for the network framework that natively works within UE5 and allows for crossplay in the future but the game will launch and run entirely on steam

There are certain reasons why a dev or studio won't want to publish to certain platforms or services. I don't see why you can't just install both platforms. When I had a Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Turbografx, NES and NEO GEO I had to switch between each platform constantly depending on the game I wanted to play. It's no different today. It's just that everything is digital now. At least you can access those services from one platform today.

I'm 99.9% sure this is trolling/bait but in case it's not...

Epic is one of the worst places to play PC games, you know. Sure, it's alright for devs because they have a lower royalty but for the players, there's literally no reason to use it aside from free games and even then, you're getting an objectively inferior experience with those games compared to Steam and GOG.

"No Steam = no buy" is a philosophy based on objective reasoning. "No Epic = no buy" can only be justified by fanboyism because there's literally nothing about Epic Games Store that is done better than Steam, or even GOG for that matter.

i first installed epic games to play Mines of Moria and even though the game came out on steam i have no reason to (as some people idiotically do) buy the game a second time

i launch it
i play it
i close it
i get on with my life

it's a game, not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ life changing experience like delivering a baby or playing the cello in a concert every time i launch the damn thing

get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grip on yourselves and your "experiences"
