RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

This game needs more time in the oven!
This game has a solid foundation but still needs some refinement!

Solo Play Experience: While DragonWilds offers an immersive survival experience, playing alone can feel isolating. The world is vast, but without NPCs to interact with, it lacks the dynamic engagement that makes single-player survival games shine. The magic system adds depth, but the absence of meaningful AI companions makes the world feel empty at times.

Progression & Exploration: The game’s progression system is deeply tied to RuneScape’s classic skill-building mechanics, which is both a strength and a weakness. While leveling up skills feels rewarding, the early-game grind can feel tedious. The survival mechanics—thirst, hunger, and rest—add realism, but sometimes they feel more like chores than engaging gameplay elements. The magic system, however, is a standout feature, allowing players to remotely build structures and gather resources efficiently.

Multiplayer & Community: Unlike traditional MMORPGs, DragonWilds lacks a built-in server browser, making it difficult to find other players unless you coordinate through external platforms. Hosting a dedicated server requires third-party services, which can be a barrier for casual players. The cooperative mechanics are fun, but the requirement for all players to sleep at the same time can be frustrating if one person refuses to rest.

Building Mechanics: One of the game’s strongest aspects is its building system, which rivals Valheim in complexity and creativity. The ability to freely rotate structures and adjust placement with precision makes base-building enjoyable. However, some environmental elements—like indestructible debris—can be frustrating when trying to customize your surroundings.

Combat & Survival: The combat system is straightforward but satisfying, with melee, ranged, and magic options. However, environmental destruction during combat can lead to unintended consequences, like breaking structures you can’t rebuild. The presence of aerial threats like dragons adds excitement, but balancing survival mechanics with combat can feel overwhelming at times.

Final Thoughts: RuneScape: DragonWilds has a strong foundation, but it still needs refinement to fully realize its potential. The survival mechanics, magic system, and building features are impressive, but the lack of NPCs, server accessibility, and certain gameplay frustrations hold it back. With future updates, this game could become a standout title in the survival crafting genre.

Are you sure you have the right game? You keep talking of dwarves but Runescape: Dragonwilds has you playing a a human. You mention Moria, but there's no land of Moria here.

Well said and put together in a good review. I'll wait until it gets a little better before buying. It does look really good.
Wait until the big update in June to buy since it's closer to that date. Then we see it more baked.
It's in Early Access... This IS the oven.
After 300 hours of playing I am still happy that I bought the game at its current price. And I can not wait till they release the new contents and fix some of the major bugs in combat.
Dude it's in the oven to begin with. We're playing the beta. If you spent even a fraction of a second on the title screen you'd know that lol.

not everyone is that fixated on the buildiing
As, according to publisher, it is an early access and it still say beta on start screen and at least 9 months left to a possible 1.0 I feel confident to say that this post is jumping the fence to soon. What I see is no news for almost two weeks. In olden days this was called 'Friday of doom'. No update or content -.-

Not projection. The original post was for an entirely different game before it was edited. They talked of dwarves, how heckler goblins would constantly harass them and how they hated the ogres. They kept talking about the land of Moria as well.
The original post was either for a different game or they copy+pasted an existing review, then edited it to fit dragonwilds after.
