Start of game - can't go down to Larry's Room

Every time I click or double click on the ladder to go to Larry's Room, the screen goes dark and I reappear at the same place and I get the annoying tutorial popup box that I have to close.

I've started fresh (new game) several times now. I made sure that I exhausted all of the dialog with Lefto and El Rey. Stuck at the top of the hill - nowhere to go.

I saw others had the same issue, but no mention of resolution.

Yes, since it would just take me back to the same place, I tried everything - the ladder, the words "to Larry's Room", the tunnel, the right edge of the screen. Mouse cursor did not change no matter where I hovered on the screen. I did stop and restart the game a few times and even started over twice.

I played again tonight and my mouse cursor changed to a pink circle with an arrow in it when I got near the tunnel. That did not happen last night. Clicking when I got that icon took be down to Larry's Room right away.

Seems to be some sort of bug there, but I am now beyond it.

nice to hear, weird, but as long as it got solved by itself and you can properly continue playing nothing to do here for now.

Hi interfan,
check for potential (old/demo) savegames, delete those and start a new game. Maybe simply restarting steam as well, as @Texino mentioned.

Tried and restarted multiple times. Reinstalled the game as well.
Will now try deleting the save games.

Hi interfan,
have you also disabled steam cloud, before deleting your savegames? If not, deleting those will have no effect, as steam will simply replace the missing files, with the ones stored in the cloud.

Still exact same result. When double clicking it returns with the same message of wanting you to use the double click short cut. Doesn't go down the ladder as intended.
