Imagine trying to insult someone's intelligence while spewing false information and failing to spell common english words correctly. You might want to go into hiding after that one, BECAUSE that's embarrassing as hell.

However, Valve will likely never give them a dime from purchases through Steam if they conclude that they were intentionally fraudulent.
Some sources do say that they received up to 1.5M in either $ or € through other payment sources and basically bypassing Steam, so either way, it's possible they got paid after all and may very well be chilling on a beach somewhere celebrating a successful scam.
No one knows for a fact until you were on the inside and part of this scam.
And the developers raised funds for the development of this game OUTSIDE Steam. According to your information, where is that money now?
