The Day Before

The entire game is built almost entirely off of unreal marketplace purchases:
1 . The entire city map is a 300 dollar unreal engine pack you can get right now. The devs legit only made the barn house, main hub, and player items. The maps, assets, everything isn't theirs. 5

2. Most of the game mechanics are from the marketplace as well :P

Yup, that's a very well known fact by now. There's an entire list of assets somewhere on reddit.

I think this is the most egregious part of the entire situation. Its one thing to make a bad game honestly, but another to sell a public asset pack repackage for $40. That certainly crosses the line into fraud and scam territory IMO.
yeah it was pretty obvious they did not make any of the assets lol

Now we have postive review bots as well it seems:

That is actually hilarious. Sadly, I doubt that even something as terrible as this will teach people to not get hyped and wait a moment before purchasing...

It wouldn't be so bad if they were just transparent about it. No one would bat an eye about indie devs buying assets if they're just honest about it.

That's for a different game, though. It hasn't been proven that they've done it for this game (yet).

WHO CARES?
Phasmaphobia is 100% built on unity assets, literally everything in phasmophobia is bought from unity store.
This isnt a valid critique, stop using this as a critique its stupid af.
the game has many more issues that you could point at. jeez

Using public assets alone isn't necessarily an issue (look at all the quality RPG maker games)
But it DOES become an issue when your ENTIRE GAME including the mechanics of the game alone are entirely taken from public assets. And you as the developers are on the record saying none of the assets are flipped...

This is particularly egregious when you look at everything ELSE wrong with this game.

I'm sorry, where does it say that to make a game you MUST create all assets yourself? THAT'S WHAT THE ASSET STORE IS FOR!!! So would-be game developers don't necessarily have to create their own assets. Yeah, what a great use of time... create new bushes when there are literally 100's on the asset store. Need a tree in your game? Better not buy it off the asset store, because that means you didn't make a game. WTF?

That being said, yeah, the developer lied and sucks and all that.
