You can just use it for profit as well, but even doing that is kind of bizarre. When you craft with 1 material, chances are you'll get a low tier item each time, but that's worth 30G, and it only takes one day. When you craft with all 20s, there's still a good chance that you will get a 30G item, but there's a little better chance for an item worth 150G. But even with the upgrades, a 20/20/20/20 item takes 3 weeks to craft. So you have a small chance to earn 150G per slot for 3 weeks of effort, but a larger chance to only win 30G. Or you could just craft an item with minimal ingredients, and get 90G every 3 days.
Then there's the crafting cost upgrades. I can't even fathom why I'd buy those. You get more than enough crafting materials to supply 3 slots (are the slots even worth buying?) to constantly churn out low level items. Why would I want to churn out 20/20/20/20 items constantly at a cost when it's less profitable?
Seems like an afterthought that never made the final cut, given winning matches gives you random crafting items for whatever reason, and there's no recipes or anything. Almost doesn't fit into the metagame where it would make more sense to give player stat increases based on upgrading your team's house or something. (And you could buy recipes for)
