However, as I have also written in that thread, I do not really understand how people find it impossible to get going. I tried it again today and got to 50 countries (and I could have kept going). Tried it a second time, got to 10 countries (and could have kept going).
Yes, I restarted immediately when the first cities spawned in Germany were too far apart or if an early random event cost me too much. But you say "even with a good start" you have problems. And that makes me think you might need to do things differently. But I don't know what you are doing, so as talentplace said, a screenshot might be helpful. Maybe you can even record a video? Would love to help, anyway.
I enjoy trying the starts that seem impossible, sometimes you can pull it off but you have to min/max everything and only buy what is absolutely required.
Its fine to make a game challenging, but I think some of the random events really makes zero sense to be there.
Yeah, I also think that the fines have reached ridiculous amounts compared to three years ago, when I started playing the game. It feels like the businessman who got his coffee spilled now wants to single handedly bankrupt an entire multinational airline out of pure greed instead of asking for some kind of compensation.
I will check those prices for events and I will probably change it.
Then you have starts like in Canada. OK...
Next destination Greenland; $300 and $900 for connection.
Then USA; 370 + 900.
Unfortunately there was no connection.
Start in Moscow. OK...
Storm is coming and Moscow is no more. Next country failed.
And so the failures continued.
I've already played through the game several times in Classic mode, but that's no longer normal.
Currently I'm seeing issue with airports with single connection. Plane leaves through the only path with ~25 of 100 possible people and somehow there are still 19/50 people in the airport with no destination shown.
edit: I've found source of the bug, it happened again. Previously I had flights canceled to Italy because of volcano, this time Libya had ebola outbreak. Both countries now have 'ghost' passengers.
I wanted to come back to this and chime in after beating DTW mode a few weeks back. I did it by save-scumming every week - save when I get a neutral / positive random event, reload when its a lawsuit.
To be honest, this really marred my impression of the game and I don't feel any desire to replay it at all. But I'm hoping the devs will continue to develop the game for the sake of others.
There are to things imho: of you get a bad start, so bad locations, bad first country to connect or early bad events, just restart.
The second is: don't follow the game, make the game follow you. The next country to unlock is random between any neighboring country. But what the game doesn't tell you is that you can unlock also other countries, not only the one which is set as goal
If you do things well and you get a good start, you can start unlocking extra countries. You want to get France ASAP, then Spain, UK. Those are good money makers. Then Portugal and... from Portugal you can unlock the US. The US will cost you a lot of money to set up (consider having something like 4/5k before going for it) but it also have an insane amount of passengers, aka money. Connecting DC to Paris is about 2.5k and you will need very fast 4 planes level 4 to handle the route.
What happend to the game in the meantime? There is not that much you can mess up in that timeframe and pretty much zero decision making going on in the first couple minutes, as you simply dont have any cash to decide anything. There are 4 airports you connect in the most efficient way possible, then you wait and then you fail. Awesome. Tried it 4 times, then i just left because it´s pointless.
