The beginning is very frustrating, you need to perform a specific sequence to even be able to bootstrap yourself, including selling one or two of the routes just to survive an upgrade. Then you get a small window of opportunity where you have enough funds to reroute and reorganise the core. After that you become locked in, and even then its baby it mode.
I spent the absolute minimum on upgrading airports, spent everything on route upgrades and the fact that almost every route I sold, except for the very first two, had zero passengers traveling on them, and all my 3 core airports all had less than 200/500 in the queue and only 3 other airports had only even upgraded to 100 capacity; meaning my transport network was literally delivering every possible passenger; I still wound up with only $10,440 when I needed $19,700 to unlock the penultimate level. I paused at 1 second remaining, I partly liquidated my airline business and to my shock horror the ultimate level required another $23,700. Left with no choice but to continue the liquidation proceedings until I had enough.
I finished liquidation reduced to only the initial starting islands connected.
The entire match was run with timers going off periodically due to fluctuations in traffic and the fact that I run routes near full capacity... I could not be any more efficient and I still had to liquidate to finish.
