Does anyone remember the game Aerobiz from the 1990s?
Playing this game makes me nostalgic for a game from the early 1990s named Aerobiz. I wish someone would try to recapture the fun and brilliance of that game. It was naturally fun to play because you were pitted against 3 other airlines (either AI or human) competing for passengers and routes. You would start like in the 1960s and build your airline by negotiating for gates at major airports around the world, purchasing and upgrading aircraft as appropriate, and the whole business management on a turn based rotation that resulted in quarterly and annual reports that showed how you were doing as a company and your standing versus your competitors.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone remembers that game and longed for a new and improved version of it, because while this Fly Corp game is somewhat entertaining, it is woefully inadequate to scratch the gamer's itch that Aerobiz did.

Yeah, I remember Aerobiz. It was a lot of fun managing your company and competing. Actually competing with other businesses is something seldom seen in tycoon games. Aerobiz even has victory conditions, and if your competition reaches those conditions before you, you lose.

Aside from Areobiz Supersonic (the sequel), I can't find a game remotely like Aerobiz. While Flycorp is a good game in its own right, it feels very different from Aerobiz, mainly in the pacing. With mechanics like "UPGRADE NOW OR DIE!", so much relying on timers, and relative simplicity, it's more like they are two games that happen to have the same theme, than two different tycoon games.

Google led me here as I searched for "Fly Corp" + "aerobiz". I never played the original, I got hooked on Supersonic.

In fact, I'm going to listen to some of the music right now.

The closest game that I have found to Aerobiz is Puffin Planes. It's quite fun.

Still got that and Aerobiz Supersonic on cartridge, and they are my favorite Koei games. I was told I would like this because I like them a lot, but this game is vastly different. It's like telling someone that you'll like Super Mario Brothers because you liked Battletoads... I mean, they're both side scrollers where you can jump, right?

That being said, I really like this game as well. It scratches an itch for a time management game I didn't know I had, but I would LOVE a remastered version of Aerobiz!

Try Puffin Planes it's much closer to Aerobiz.
I absolutely loved Aerobiz and Aerobiz: Supersonic back in the day. I've been waiting in vain for decades for some company to produce a similar title. I've long since given up hope that KOEI will ever revive this, or some of their other great franchises from the Grunge Era like Genghis Khan, Uncharted Waters, Liberty or Death, etc. Since KOEI merged with Tecmo, they are no longer interested in making strategy games that aren't part of the Romance or Nobanaga series. Shame.

As the last poster above mentioned, Puffin' Planes comes very close to the Aerobiz games. In fact, it's probably the closest any game has come to embracing the original concept. However, it's pretty basic, and the bird schtick is...well...silly.

For the time, Aerobiz and its Supersonic sequel featured a nice balance between historical simulation, airline management. and business simulation without being overly complex.

Gawd, how I miss the old KOEI.
