Looking back on ASBR
I've played the game every now and then an enjoyed it, but i've never really felt justified in enjoying it, because of how much the community non stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the netcode. Like, i get it, it makes the game far harder to play online. But with how damn consistent the comments about the netcode were, it turned me away from the FGC.

Welcome to 2023 where having a good netcode it should be a must overall for every game with online functions.
While most of indie fighting games comes with rollback netcode, CC2 refuses to implement into their games.

And FYI is not just a feature to play better online:
  • It improves the matchmaking. It makes possible to find a better opponent based on your skill level, rather that just finding the best connection available.
  • It makes possible to play against more opponents, not just the people in your region. Which benefits people from not populated regions like South America, Turkey or Australia, for example.
  • Overall It makes the game's lifespan bigger.

Defending or don't care about what it should be a standard nowadays is a pity.

You know, i haven't played a fighting game in a LONG time, and from the way you say it i can see why it's a shock that CC2 hasn't ever properly implemented it yet.
The thing i have an issue with is how 90% of the people who see people that either don't know any better or aren't fully informed as to why things are unacceptable, they non stop bash them for not fully understanding the gravity of things and worship the "Jester" steam award like it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deity, rather than doing what you did and actually explaining why.

It's the only downside of the game tbh. I think they did a great job, altering different elements from original 2013 ASB, adding assists, tweaking move lists and balance, changing that atrocious treasure hunt mode with battery (that mode you had to play to get alt costumes and taunts) to all star battle mode etc.
Actually netcode is better than in the original, also I've noticed they have added new stuff like practice standby, with AW Diego update. But yeah, netcode is still quite bad, I get yellow bar connection most of the time and it's a gamble. Sometimes - pretty playable, some other times - lagging nightmare. Oh and if its 1 bar red connection - do not even bother to try:BountyGold:

pretty sure the connection is so bad that the dedicated players just use a 3rd party software to emulate local play (parsec), making this game a discord fighter (TL note: dead) the moment it came out.
you're free to enjoy it. but it was never gonna be a thriving game. compare with other fighting games, some of them have rollback AND cross platform play. that increases the potential pool of players by a TON. this game has neither.
i tried to cope and play at first, but some matches were unplayable and it took a long time to find a game. i had more fun playing guilty gear +r that you can often buy on sale for peanuts.

I understand your feeling toward players bashing you about netcode. Jester award is just a sneaky way to express anyway, since you don't know who gave it to you, why it was done, and doesn't lead to any discussion.

I've been playing most fighting game over the last 3 decades, and of course I've experienced it's evolution, from arcades, to home gaming then 1st online experiences, then current status. Jojo ASBR netcode is attrocious and unacceptable in post covid era, this is why people are complaining. I'm mentionning post covid because even though rollback netcode has been a thing for a long time already, casual didn't really care/know about it. Now most people know at least that it is an improvement, even though not everyone can explain it.

FGC is like every community, it has a bunch of elistist people. What's interesting to note is that most of these elitist guys are not so old into the genre, but just want to make you know that they know more than you do. You shouldn't care about them, just enjoy, the game is very cool offline.
