Story mode
Was there an actual reason as to why they removed it?

Probably because the story mode in the original was barebones as hell and they didn't feel like making a better attempt.
Just guessing, but I think it was trimmed down to keep the game spoiler lite for anime only fans, which is also why we don't have Pucci with his full moveset. On the flip side, I actually like how streamlined it is now, where you don't have to skip thru the cliffnotes of the actual story of the manga to get to the fights, and how we have "what if" battles with dialouge and everything.

Yes well, it sucked so terribly bad.
Parts 1 and 2 were baely acceptable, every other part was awful, part 8 was an insult.
I'm glad they removed it.
I just wish they replaced it with something endlessly replayable.
ASB mode is a lot of fun I really like it but once it's done it's done.
A more randomized single player mode would have been amazing. Maybe in addition to ASB mode because as I said I really like it.

It is just not possible to make a good enough story mode for Statdust Crusaders, Diamond is Unbreakable and Stone Ocean in a fighting game.
Imagine all the assets they would need to include everything and not make it feel cheap.
SC and DiU would need so many more stages, and what about all the stands that have powers so unique that they cannot be implemented in a fighting game? Capcom tried to insert minigames for some of those but many of those minigames sucked.
And imagine how many wall text of exposition you would need to clearly explain certain points in the story.
JoJo is not the same as Dragon Ball...

the story mode had the best song once you finish the story mode, and yet you say the all star battle mode is better than the story mode, lmao you couldn't be more wrong

I think all fighting games benefit from a single player or story mode. I see people saying that they'd have to explain plot points and whatnot but in all honesty they don't. There is no reason it should have to follow stories already laid out in the manga and anime. This game would benefit from an adventure mode with many different stories littered around an overworld, much like street fighter six or the adventure modes in some of the older mortal Kombats. A story mode really isn't enough any more there days. A fighting game really needs to have more going on in a single player mode. It would be amazing to have an RPG that instead of just turn based fights when you run into monsters, you also have fighting fighting matches. Combining the two would make for a really cool experience especially if the game were violent like mortal Kombat.
