games with occasional lag > no games at all

Fighting games needs to sync both players inputs. When the inputs are not sent or there is a error:
  • If its a delay based netcode, it stops. The transmitting error tries to "fix" the desync.
  • If its a rollback netcode, it just "predict" your inputs. The game continues.
Your problem is the netcode. Demon Slayer had similar problem at launch, but instead giving you an error, the game continues with an AI opponent. People found out about because streaming (there is no spectate mode), both players had completely different matches.

Once again. Delay based netcode is not "unplayable", but when it comes to fix issues. It lacks of tools.

I thought they fixed the netcode since I haven't been having any issues since a few days ago but I guess it's a situational thing

Guilty Gear Strive has had rollback since launch and they had the same issue with connection of matches failing when trying to load in. Guess again.

If you look at where are from the people who complain about netcode, you will notice most of them are from::
  • South America
  • East Europe
  • Oceania
Delay based netcode and rollback netcode work almost the same, but rollback netcode has more features when it comes to face problems with connection.

Edit: Once again, delay based netcode is not "unplayable" and you probably wont notice many problems if you are from North America, because there are more players in that region.

I think they'll get to fixing it like they did with mine (NA)

This tbh. I am from central Europe and as long as I play with people from the same region, the connection is fine and the delay is minimal.
