No Rest for the Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked

Failed to start process for this game: "An application control policy has blocked this file." (0x11c7)
Hello there!

I dont know if this is the place to post this but I just got back from lunch and wanted to hop in again and I get this error message:

Failed to start process for this game: "An application control policy has blocked this file." (0x11c7)

I've tried clearing downloads cache from Steam.
I've tried restarting Steam and running as Admin.
I've tried restarting my PC.

Not sure if I should try reinstalling the game, but I'll give that a go. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Any advice?

Thanks

I have this problem and to solve this you must turn off the windows protector. Or meaby your antivirus application...

I dont know if this is only solution byt this works for me.
Same problem here.
same problem here to
Gemini helped me fix it. At least worked for me

How to Fix Error 0x11C7 (Smart App Control Block)
If you are getting the error "Failed to start game process: An App Control policy has blocked this file (0x11C7)", it means Windows 11's security feature is preventing the game's executable from running. Follow these steps to fix it:

1. Disable Smart App Control (Most Common Fix)
Open the Start Menu and type Windows Security, then press Enter.

Go to App & browser control in the left sidebar.

Click on Smart App Control settings.

Change the setting to Off.

Note: Once turned off, you might not be able to turn it back on without a fresh Windows installation, but it is often necessary for gaming and using early access software.
sure, turn off your security to play a game... or the devs can digitally sign their files so you can play with it on.
I'm having all of sudden the same issue, and it seems quite spreading, I found forum discussions in the last 2 days, and I'm not going to disable any security check because of a game, I rather wait for an update, meanwhile playing on Steam Deck ;)

I just got this error today as well. From what I've read, the error code happens because the devs didn't resign the certification so Windows can't verify the publisher. It's cost the devs money to resign apparently. This needs to be addressed and fixed asap!
I genuinely urge everyone still on windows, to just switch to linux, just try, grab an empty disk drive to test drive. There are linux distros specifically for games these days with steam pre-installed.
Same problem here. ETA on fix that doesn't require disabled security?

as I said I have a Steam Deck, so I know you can game on Linux, it's not exactly the same though, without mentioning NVidia drivers on Linux are not the best, so should I also get rid of my RTX 5070 TI? On hundreds of games I'm having only an issue for this one, which is easily solvable by signing their files.
and btw the last update apparently solved the issue for now...
