parry window is too small
in my opinion the parry window being this small is diabolically sadistic. I'm sorry dude but come on. I fight armor and weapons IRL, parrying doesn't work this way! At least let it resolve to a block if the parry is mis-timed. It's like you think every mistake needs to result in death for a game to be challenging and you're wrong.

Maybe the problem is not the window is too small, but too many factors need to be met in order to execute a parry. No animation can be playing in order to parry, if you missed an attack, you can't parry on the next attack. Your look direction have to be towards the enemy. You can't stand too close to the enemy.

:steamthis: This!

The main thing is learning the different animations for the enemies.
Some enemies I can parry every time others I have issues with! I blame bad timing from me.

The sword knights that point the sword towards you and run. I have no problem parry that move.

It is not suppose to be to easy to parry as it is OP to be able to do it every time.

Its always about knowing your enemy moveset, take that rat bomber bastard, he throws the bomb and if you get close he will do his combo with the dagger, sometimes just the once, but you can always pass him rolling and backstab the sucker. PArry is supposed to be hard because its rewarding, get that focus to rune attack.
We are trapped in the same areas until an update or release day, i say go out there and train, i got way better than first day.

I cannot understand people who, having experienced a fleeting difficulty, do not try to figure out what they are doing wrong, but want the game to be changed so that it is easy for them.

When I reached the first boss, I distributed stats very poorly and spent all the food in a few battles. I realized that I was acting the wrong way and began to try to parry his attacks. In about thirty tries, I figured out how to steam two of his attacks and then the boss did not cause any difficulties. I would be very happy!

I think that in games of this genre, diligence is rewarded. Try to study your opponents well too.

Couldn’t agree more. It goes beyond timing and skill and just feels broken.

dude comparing sword fighting in-game to real life...lmao. It's a skill issue bro. Just go youtube and you'll see how pros do it. Or just stick to dodging if you're not skill enough. This game ain't suppose to be easy

Same here, Warrick killed me 4 times in a row the first time i fought him, i was panic rolling and all over the place, then i said to myself that i need a better strategy than just fleeing, i try parrying and it worked like a charm, well not the first time around but after a few tries hehehe.
But you can dodge his attacks too, if you dont wanna parry a lot of enemies give a large window to get backstabbed after some combo attack, almost all of them have a backstab window, some cannot be backstabbed though.

I agree parry mechanics need some love +1
Sgt.JESUS May 20, 2024 @ 9:30am
What needs some love are you people, stop trying to make the game easier, you dont want to train how to parry, you dont want to learn the enemies movesets, this is not how a soulslike combat works, i even saw threads about colorful cues as to when is the right time for the parry, like a freaking timed event where you have to press X or Y, or mash that button , this is not DMC or Bayoneta.

In other words, the "window" here is small because it could be parrying too early, or parrying too late. How does this happen? Because the player doesn't know when to invest in a parry, but goes through it anyway in the hopes of making it work.

Some kind of indicator in the attack animation would be tremendously helpful for beginners. As they progress and get better, then make it a HUD option to disable on or off maybe?

In a tutorial? Yes. In the base game? No. Parry should have a high ceiling to master not only because the reward is well worth it but because those that have the skill and/or put in the time and effort should be rewarded for it. Parry should NEVER be made something that is easy or it would trivialize most of the combat.

Guess what?! There is always blocking and dodging. No one NEEDS to parry. Completely optional. Let it be difficult and feel rewarding for those that can master it.

Compared to some other games and/or equipment classes in those, the parry window is quite lenient here. On top of that - any semblance of common sense infusions/enchants makes the parry pretty damn overpowered, if not stupidly overpowered. Not mentioning that many enemies can be circled around and backstabbed after parry ...

You farming jesters or what ...

YOu can play the game without parry, if you can't get the timing right, just don't bother and keep dodge rolling, you will die more than it is worth trying to parry.
Parry costs stamina too so keep that in mind.
