No Rest for the Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked

Message from the dev on discord - Jan 13
We're not releasing Breach this month, no. We're building up to a bigger release again due to the situation we're in. So for January please just expect a teaser, not a full trailer or the actual Wicked Inside. We're still putting the Wicked Inside together atm.

Even if we wanted to, we couldn't release an update right now because the whole Private Division separation isn't done on paper yet. I know it's frustrating to you folks to have to wait - it's just as frustrating for us since our livelihoods are dependent on this, but we have to go through the proper process.

And again, ultimately the wait atm - while annoying - will be okay if the update we ship is great and that's what our focus should be on. There's a ton on our table for 2025 and Breach is just the start, we're obviously already working on a lot of the stuff that comes after that internally.

I'm saying all this to keep expectations in check. We'll elaborate on why we had to be silent during the Wicked Inside and will go over our plans obviously.

And yes, after Breach shipped, we'll obviously go through a period again where you'll see a lot more patches, hotfixes, etc. to tune things we might have missed based on stats and player feedback and I'm looking forward to that.

see you in a month for the next delay.

you should probably put something in the title to indicate the key point of the message (upd8 not in january)

Hahaha :D
Yeah this is not a good look. The january *announcement* is delayed :D
However, Ill cut them some slack, we don't know how bad the Private Division seperation has been etc, I'll wait for the update before I judge them, still believe they will deliver

They delivered Ori 1/2, very solid games. Clearly the private division thing derailed things in a big way.
Also in general, don't buy anything based on a "promise" when it comes to EA. You are always taking a risk and keep your expectations in check.
We will still get some type of announcement in January with a full reveal coming later of Breach. If we're lucky we'll get it Q1.

they were a very different studio back then, with quite a lot of different members, different team size, and a completely different genre of game

so we still need them to actually prove themselves with wicked

Yet another delay of a teaser of a trailer of a hypothetical patch.... Should have launched EA in 2026
Ok honestly this is horrible. Not even a roadmap and they are talking about a "teaser"?
No this actually doesn't feel like a scam. This is another mismanaged game developer who think personality trump presentation and production. I honestly have no proof that they are doing anything, and what they have released does not merit 40 dollars early access.

I am tired of sponsoring bloated game designer's egos. I am not even going to blame him, it's time for the Early Access pig to be slaughtered. How do you Early Access a game you aren't supposed to release because of the paper work?

Earlier when asked, they profusely exclaimed that No Rest For the Wicked was safe in their hands. Now, what was once in their hands is in the hands or Private Division and even if they wanted to they can't release updates?

Da Fuq? Why are they allowed to sell a game on steam they can not update, build, and release? This is not an EA launch, this was a monetized Demo, and they used streamers, hype, and game awards to get what they wanted.

So what is he saying, even if by the magic words presto, alakazam and the game was finished, Moon Studios can't release it?

But in the end I take full responsibility, I bought the game. I also judged the game on what I bought and left a glowing review. They can keep the money, I have learned a lesson. Let me fix what I have done.

Like I said in the end I don't blame them, I definitely blame myself.

Ive bought alot of EA titles over the years, this has become the most annoying one to own and wait for.

And its also made by a studio who already released good games in the past, so this is actually obnoxious at this point.

This major update better be VERY good, and offer me atleast 20 hours of gameplay ontop of the already 5-10.

My biggest concern is when Devs sell their games via Steam and communicate via discord. I didn't buy the game on discord, nor do I want 50 discords to dev teams subscribed.

He said the game would come out because the IP was not property of Private Division, its Moon who owns the IP, so we are safe on that part, how long does it take to get off a contract like this? I have no idea the legal shenanigans necessary to go back to normal, neither do you, we are not properly fu-cked yet, and i still believe they are gonna deliver.
If the IP was not theirs than we would be.

depends on resources used example trump.
they have not been forced to go unforeseen : Witchstone route yet but always a risk in early access.

https://www.ign.com/articles/take-two-is-quietly-killing-private-division - Private Division kept their staff who was working on NRftW and there is not one article on this but a few that cites just the same.. - and yet, you can also read this https://x.com/thomasmahler/status/1787840291564564805 - so to me it's clear, they are independent from the publisher and the condescending tone used laughing when others lost jobs since "he" was so smart.. - and what happened, they cannot deliver because they just can't deliver, suddenly this became an issue, which IMO is just b.s. and yeah, I would think he will throw w/e to justify their incompetence.

also interesting for you to know, dealing with legal would be a "Thomas" job, and perhaps his partner.. other employees, above all the ones who are working on this game development would not be delayed by any of that - that doesn't impact timelines in delivery, it may have commercial ramifications but the developer "dude" is not dealing with any of these.

https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/private-divisions-games-and-franchises-including-kerbal-space-program-are-reportedly-being-taken-over-by-former-annapurna-interactive-employees/

interesting enough, when you compare with the information from the first article, Tales of the Shire was supposed to stay with Private Division, which seems to have changed and it's also reported in Bloomberg, https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-07/ex-annapurna-video-game-staff-to-absorb-former-take-two-label-private-division - and it seems all the stuff Private Division "kept" is now being shifted to this business newly established, and the "substantially all" is a legal term - goes pretty much everything, which in other words could mean No Rest is now also under this new team, who apparently by the articles have terminated all remaining staff of the Private Division, which is probably the people who were working with Tales & No Rest.

either Moon Studios own their stuff and this has no impact on them and Thomas can be condescending all he wants on X, or he lied before and he is still lying to us all and No Rest is going to this new business which, in all likelihood is way more concerned with Tales until the release in March - and maybe they will take a decision to keep or not No Rest, and if they so followed what happened in this Early Access, it would be wise for them to pull out.

some of you folks still think they will deliver because "they delivered Ori" - I keep saying, it's the developers who are actively working who did that game, the talent is the people involved at that time and they may no longer have any of those people working for them.. what a surprise, THEY know it.. why people in here cannot understand something this simple? - https://x.com/thomasmahler/status/1879311148572381393
I don't see this project ever finishing. They've been too silent and hiding in their discord
This might be the last early access game I ever buy, and just wait until release from now on. I'm tired of people saying one thing, and then whoosh too bad.

I do

How do you "hide in a Discord"? It's a public Discord, everybody can go there and read, your argument doesn't compute

That sounds fantastic, thanks

And I am tired of people crying about early access, they knew what they were getting into, but still complains
Some dude named Junn posted this on the foruns and i think he makes a good point, so:

"I think the lack of updates and all this situation is cause of the Private Division separation. As they have been saying on forums and some streamers on podcats, the sales of the game are shared with Private Division (obviously) till the rupture and all the legal issues are done. The meaning: nor Take 2 or NRFTW wants to update or promote the game till they are sure that all the money of future and actual sales will be theirs. The sale was on Nov (more less) and today is still undisclosed.

For the other hand, marketing is usually a publisher’s shore and they haven’t moved either.

I think that is why they hadn’t update even the sligthest hot fix or patchs for months, which is rare considering that they had a rythm with patches. They are holding updates on purpose for the wellbeing of profits."
