No Rest for the Wicked

Mixed....Damn it
Please say this game is better than mixed. Was looking forward to it. The trailer makes it look awesome.

Give it a day or 2 and see how the hotfixes pan out. Good chance the score will rebound if/when issues are improved or fixed. And btw, the game is awesome. Looks and plays great, but the current tuning feels kind of off right now. In addition, there really weren't a lot of improvements in the various systems as many were hoping for.

I only played this game for like an hour before this current patch. As of today, I'm only past the first major boss. So, take this with a grain of salt, but it's just okay. It's neat that they have taken the soulslike formula and applied it to a ARPG landcape.

The mechanics and movement are a bit janky, though. I've fallen off a number of cliffs because the roll or dash didn't work like I expected. The stamina drains a lot faster than I would expect for certain movements and actions. The 1st boss was extremely easy, but it's only the first so Idk what to expect long term.

Having said that, I absolutely loved an early quest in a cave you click on this plant and it adds new stairs/floors of light that helps you navigate the cave in a different way . There are some good concepts in the game and I'm impressed by what they are doing. And, most importantly, I'm having fun playing the game. Isn't that what matters?

I'm planning to play though the full game this weekend and will write up an early access review, but it doesn't seem like a terrible game. However, I really hate the concept of early access and how long it takes for devs to balance games that have been in our libraries for a full year... that might explain some of the negative and mixed reviews more than my first play through rose colored glasses.

Game is even harder now and they are still punishing players for deaths (crafted food and repair cost). If you are bad you can end up without food to heal and without gear (no money to repair)

This game has big potential, with the update many bugs occured, enemies are quite unbalanced and they introduce lot of changes, that does not make in game experience easier. But they might hotfix some of the stuffs in a day or two, but depends.

One of my biggest flaws of the game is grinding materials for food which heals you, nope you dont have flasks like in other souls-like game. So you eventually run out of food, while fighting enemies that 2-3 shot you. Instead of practicing boss fights you are forced to grind material so you have atleast some heals and then repeating the process if you suck at the game. Its really punishing.

This comes to gear durability, with each death it drops, so you have to repair and you might eventually run out of money.

Also this game have variety of weapons, which is cool, but I personally like caster archetype and either way it forces you to play melee, to build up focus and after that you can cast 1 or 2 spells and back to hitting the enemy with the wand/staff. Though this is about preference but I dislike it.

You can enchant the gear and the weapons, must most of the time they succ ass, since its RNG based, that goes for loot drop.

Overall with the game is awesome, art is phenomenal, but with the update it went from good to poo poo pretty quickly. There more stuffs that annoys me in the game, but these are the main points I wanted to include.

other than a handful of people the general consensus is this patch did a lot more harm than good. Like we are all happy that there is more content but they needed to focus on fixing stuff but they kind of did the exact opposite everything that needed to get fixed was made arguably worst except maybe the loot you get. they completely ruined a few systems made enemies harder which was not at all needed. Like fromsoft games may be hard but its fair. This doesnt feel fair. Its ridiculous that enemies have no stamina bar amongst various other issues that make no sense like none of the enemy skills have cool downs so they can just repeatedly do the same attack over and over again with almost no down time. I liked the previous version of the game way more than whatever this is now. And I wouldn't hold out hope for their hotfixes I don't think the devs are taking any feedback from players at all. If they did this patch wouldn't have been such a mess. Personal opinion by the way not everyone will agree with me but a lot of players will as you can tell by the reviews dropping the game to mixed.

And to reiterate what jeyk said specifically about enchanting they completely ruined it with "do more damage on tuesday" affixes. they essentially nerfed all the buffs you could get on gear and buffed the negative affixes. just nonsensical.
Review bombing, nothing else. Game is pretty dope. Deserves at least 70%.

The only "-" from me would be to give bow/wand players some better options. U shouldnt use wand as a melee weapon. Its like wands and bows are ONLY secondary.

Im a dual dagger player so i dont care much, but for those who want to be a mage or ranger its pretty bad.

Overal this update is DOPE! Love it.

the game is great! and for the sale price i would buy it. I clocked 200 hours into the game before this new update. collecting gear (lots) and just role playing my character exploring maxing out the town and trying to make awesome builds. I would say yes buy the game. and of course a lot of people have good arguments that would improve the game but it must be hard to find that middle ground.

THe thing is that you cant discover the new content right away.... You've spent time on the game and "oh great theres a huge patch comin up , so happy to return on this beautiful game" but... hey, start all over... and thats long to start all over dude

The game is awesome, yes it's hard, but it gets better when you gear up. This game has a nice pace.

Alot of Reviews are bombs from Ultra Early Access, people being mad over Dev Design choices if their life hinge on it..

Team lost their publisher, had to fight for it.. and Hide to legally stay quiet. So updates were abit slow, New and Road Map not updated do to that.

People got Angry.

When I 1st picked up game, It was Mixed too, But alot of them were being cry babies about timers. Like in a troll sense... not in a constructive sense. Hard to take any of reviews seriously.

Fun Game, Hard fun exploration, Does alot of what I wanted. Now that a decent update happen, hopefully some of reviews turn around. I doubt half of those people are coming back.

People bombing the reviews because they suck at the game and expect to hack and slash their way through every encounter. Which isn't the premise at all of the game. I've clocked in 12 hours so far and haven't encountered any issues so far.

Performance wise everything seems to be working fine for me on my end, I'm on PC with max setting enabled. Only annoying thing I've encountered is my keybinding don't save when I exit the world so I have to rebind back to what I'd had originally swapped(which isn't a big deal which I'm sure will get fixed, I only changed the auto run/sprint and parry keybinds).

Gameplay wise it's been a blast, this is my first playthrough of the game btw, I'm close to finishing up the first zone( I think). I've killed 3 bosses, current'y lvl 17.

Don't let the mixed and the sudden bombing reviews throw you off from actually trying the game yourself. It's an early access game still in development and we're all basically play-testing the game for the Devs so they can improve it.

Solid 5/5 from me so far looking forward to the future of this game!

lol no people are bombing because its such a change from the previous version that I think a lot of us are getting whiplash. And yes the mobs arent impossible to kill I don't think anyone has said that at all. But if you just ignore the emotional parts of our complaints we make valid points.

But lets be clear, you can make the game more difficult yourself by limiting things reducing the armor you wear limiting your health items and not using potions. So its absolutely not needed for the devs to do it. And no one was really asking for any of that. My biggest problem is the enchanting system and what they did to it personally.

Regardless think wisely when purchasing from a dev team that did a bunch of stuff no one asked for. Like a boat load of stuff no one asked for lol.

xd
It is an awesome game, just in the current state there are some questionable design choices and weird mechanics balancing
