As for OP. unique weapons as well as plate armor are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Cursed weapons are what you want. Four enchants, and a socket.
As far as being a strength user. In this game it doesn’t matter, in the future it will but for now you can be an unga bunga player as an intelligence build. If you’re dead set on running strength, I would recommend the claymore, or the gnarled saw. Festering earth is ok too, but it’s got a longer charge time than the other weapons.
2H weapons suck in this game. That's just the honest truth of it. Even with the extended reach, they simply don't deal enough physical damage or poise damage per hit to justify being so slow and not having a shield. The only reason we use them is because they're FUN. If you want to 2H something, I've found Harvester's Dread to have a much better weapon art combo despite dealing less damage when maxed out.

However, the best strength weapon by far that I've used personally is Tongue Splitter. You can easily buy it from the Blacksmith. It's fast and has a devastating combo with seemingly endless pokes, which can break poise on bosses almost as easily as dual daggers can.

Just gave it a try. That's spiffy. It's basically the power of a rune attack like Breaker Thrust with only cost being stamina. But unfortunately it strikes me as something the devs will nerf.
Sadly you then get locked out of all other weapons until you can respec late in your playthrough
