RUNES have just stopped working

I started a new character in a new realm and everything worked fine for a few hours. Then suddenly my weapon runes stopped working: the Fireball of the basic staff, when I use the rune, does the animation without launching the projectile, consuming concentration despite the absence of a damaging hitbox. Other runes like Channel take my life away but I don't gain focus in return. I've tried changing weapons or runes, restarting the game and verifying the files but nothing seems to fix it. I'm playing a wizard, therefore dependent on the use of runes, without them I can't do much.

Hope this is just a post update bug and it'll be patched soon, but in the meantime did someone experienced this as well and managed to fix it?
