No Rest for the Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked

Worth buying in current state?
Just had this game on my list for a while and figured I'll ask what the player base thinks? I'm not crazy picky about microtransactions and such and I'm not to concerned about the timers either but those were some of the main concerns I saw people talking about. I;m sorta just looking for a new souls like so grind out and I've been tryin LotF but that ones kinda dead anymore and Elden Ring I beat already, so basically what do the people who have been playing it think of the game so far and should I throw a couple bucks toward it while its on sale? Thank you for your time and your help! :steamhappy:

I just bought the game today, I've played about 3.6 hours more or less, the game is fun if you like games like Elden Ring for example, however with the small amount of time I've played it, I can say for now that I do have a few issues with the game. For example, all of the equipment has durability, meaning the more you use it, the more you get hit and more importantly the more you die, the durability will go down, you need to go to a blacksmith (when you unlock it just before the first boss) and you need to pay coin to repair your equipment, money is not in abundance at the beginning of the game. My next issue is the fact that, unlike Dark Souls games, which have the flasks to replenish health or Mana, these do not exists in this game, you need to craft food, which again, before the first boss you will need to gather the ingredients which are limited and do not re-spawn in the world, at least not in my playtime, and its not like you can go to the checkpoint (bond fire) to re-spawn enemies and materials in the area, to either level up or gather materials for making food, to use in the boss fights.

Anyway, this sounded more like a rant-comment, but its a souls like game after all, but in my opinion, wait until they sort these things out because honestly, I have played every dark souls game that has come out and this game was making me a bit angry, I will try and push forward with this game, but I'd rather wait and not get angry at this game lol.

I was going to purchase but then noticed there apparently hasn't been any word from the developers for a month and a half or so. Considering there are words of optimization issues, not hearing from dev is worrisome. This situation reminds me of Cities skylines 2. I think I will sit on my cash for some time.

What are you talking about? They announced the next big update is coming on the 25th...

If you can accept the current low amount of content and the fact that it will probably take a few years to finish EA with the current quality, this is a good game.

I just started this last night. I’m on a.ROG Ally so I was extra wary. I am having a blast. As an older gamer, and not typically good at any souls like games, the pacing of combat feels very intuitive and rewarding. It’s running very smoothly (38-40) during combat, 50 exploring as long as the area has loaded in. I was on the fence since release as well. After 3.5 hours I can’t wait to get off work and enjoy the art. Don’t know anything about late game, but as a picky gamer with little time, I’m thoroughly happy. Also. It is drop dead gorgeous, which doesn’t hurt.

Thank you all! These reviews are definitely helping out a lot! How is the magic in the game so far? I haven't seen much magic based stuff from many of the clips I've seen so whats the extent of that?

This is a starter guide on magic/mage in NRFTW, could give some insights:

I know some of the most broken builds are magic builds, but it's difficult to start out as mage with the focus consumption. Game is great and is quality over quantity, but that also mean the game is short. If you are looking to grind for many hours, it's not right now you should pick it up. But an update is coming later this month with a big update for crucible (late/end game dungeon). Depending on what this update is, this might be the thing that provides endless dungeon runner with loot drops you can grind for many hours

I looked around and didn't see any word. The last thing I seen was an update back in May. I stand corrected I guess. Can you point me in the direction to where they are posting to?

Sure. Look at the top and click where it says "Library". Once you click that, the left side of your screen will display the list of games you own. Click on "No Rest For The Wicked". Clicking this will bring the game to the center of your screen. Under "Activity" you can see the latest news. Their last post was June 27th.

Thanks. I can't do that as I have not purchased the game. The only thing I see is this message board and I see they have a Discord, but I don't use Discord.

played for 5 hours today, and I just don't get the criticism some people make... durability its a total non issue.. equipments have 100 durability and above, and only seems to get a 5 damage when you die... and its dirty cheap to repair it... so if you suck that much to die 20 times in a row without getting into a blacksmith or using the consumable that repairs your stuff... that´s not the games fault then...
And about not having too much content... it seems plenty to me for a early access... people that are expecting to be a full game are just not that smart...

You have to take into account the 10 hotfixes and patches that were made since the launch. Devs got rid of tons of annoying stuff. People just bought it immidiatley and tried to play it like poe, got their asses pounded, refunded the game and now they are salty.

The game itself is definitely worth buying in the current state. It gives you plently of content for early access and the patches will only keep on coming. You'll definitely love it so buy it now when it's cheaper.
