It's an Action Puzzle Adventure game with MMORPG elements, without online or multiplayer functionality.
eeeeeee you do know they gona add CO OP Multiplayer right ?
There are more options than only parry and dodge:
1. What about blocking? It's also nothing different. With heavy load, enough armor via plate (~1k in the end) and poise from gear/shield a tank can tank every hit in the game. Even the last boss in cruicible can easy been completely tanked with a shield.
2. With heavy load you can shoulder rush any enemy via RB+LB. This pushes the enemy to the ground. This is also possible with every boss.
3. Many enemys can be just backstabed when you run around them and they are slower than you (e.g. heavy shield guys, staggered enemies or when they are exhausted in some way).
I personally think that "parry" is not that easy to master and it's always a sacrifice of a risk which is fully fine. We are not playing diablo or poe here. This game has an combat system similar to elden ring just adding some more random items. In theory elden ring is also an action role playing game. Also Lost Ark is an (MMO) action role playing game.
Puzzle? It only opens shortcuts like Dark Souls 1 already had.
MMORPG elements yeah, but only regarding "real time" dailies and city building. I really have no clue why they implemented that or whats their vision for that.
I think he is more talking about the "real time" elements like daily quests or the 4 hours to upgrade a city. Not the actual multiplayer. These elements are really stupid currently and should be changed. It's artifical stretch in expectation players come and play a char or on a realm daily. Reality is that after a couple of days there is nothing to do in this game for daily progression.
You may try another character, on another realm (starting) and whats the point of these leements on another realm then (dispite you will transfer to it later because no one wants to build there). It's just bad design.
They should have implemented respec or use the xp potions for that as rare drop. there is no point in playing another character dispite switching str/dex/int/wis. But all aspects of it are a chore (i have 4 chars). The main reason is you want to try out different weapon types, because almost all gear is always the same. Skill stats are allways the same (6 points into wisdom, no points into stam, some points in health, some into equip load depending on heavy or mid / cloth is useless anways) etc. The game is only strange.
eh i dont think its need to be changed i feel actualy pretty happy for ones in a game that difrent then most other games out there i dont mind dailys or even city upgrading
plus i dont think its bad Design its just something new i can see the Timer be annoying to progress but as a MMO player i just use to it really and so far this game i love it then any other game so far that mostly came out this year
True, it's an arcade combat feature. But it was introduced by real-time first-person RPGs (including some MMO) quite a while ago, and popularized by Dark Souls and TES\ESO franchises.
The game though looks more like a multi-player arcade combat hack-and-slash, not aRPG. An aRPG features a massive gear selection from random pool and lots of actions happening on screen, i.e. a Rogue\Nethack style or a Diabolo-id. cRPGs based on old-school stategical concept (e.g. something like Original Sin or Baldurs gate) have active defensese out of their reach usually.
The parry is not random. Once you learn a boss or enemy, you can parry every attack. But it takes practice
