How's the story? No spoilers please.
How's the story in this game? Is it well written? Engaging? How about the world building and lore? Is it similar to From Software games where most of the stuff is left for the player to piece together or does it tell a cohesive story? Are there branching paths or is it linear?

Please don't spoil anything.

Only played the opening so far (not past the first boss yet) and you'll get a rough outline on what's happening, then thrown in with letters to find, NPCs chattering, etc. As such I'd say it feels a lot like the storytelling in From Software titles. Since only the first part of the game is playable so far, probably nobody will be able to say how diverse/branching the story will be later on.

Edit – Just to clarify: The world itself doesn't send you on one clear and true path. There are multiple routes, shortcuts to discover, paths looping back to previous areas, ladders to kick down, doors to open, etc. it feels a lot like a top-down From Software title.

Story feels linear and cohesive, nothing groundbreaking, but nothing obtuse. Your main character is special- stranger in a strange land. The world is going to hell but the Why isn't revealed. There are some bad actors.

My favorite thing is the artwork. It's very gritty and dark. EVERY. SINGLE. NPC. is illustrated in a unique way and gives the world more character than just about anything I've played outside of BG3.
