No Rest for the Wicked

What's the point of inventory and equipment slots being locked?
New characters are limited to only being able to use 1/3 main hand weapon, 1/3 off hand weapon, 1/3 rings, and 4/6 tools. Their gear, consumables, and resource inventory tabs are limited to 20/35 slots and runes are limited to 25/35 slots. Defeating "Torn" enemies allows you to pick one of these things to increase (+1 ring, main hand, or off hand slot, or +5 to any of the inventory slots).

What is the point of this system? The biggest issue is that it isn't fun. The second biggest issue is that it's relatively easily circumvented using normal game functions, which makes it entirely pointless. Make a new realm, rush through to beat the first boss, run to the Rookery, skip the cutscenes and dialogue, race upstairs, claim your reward. Quit to the main menu, select that new realm, select the "Backups" option, choose a backup, jump back into the realm and go kill the boss again. Rinse and repeat until you've maxed your inventory and equip slots.

It is a mechanic implemented to find items in the world after your reach the main city. After, you will be able to pick what you would like to increase first.

Yeah, there's no point to it really. At least not with how it currently works.

You can do the same for repairs (I'm guessing). Since they're free before first boss just create a realm where you free the blacksmith then exit out. Then everytime you need to repair in your main realm you just exit out, go into "Repair Realm", repair for free, exit out, go back to main realm.

Which makes durability even more pointless.

The repair system is fine now. The developers updated it and it is less expensive. A little penalty if you die. The inventory is well indeed a pain in the butt at the beginning but you will get items in the world by killing bosses to increase you inventory slots such as, items (by 5 at once), material (by 5 at once) etc... and to unlock ability to have a secondary weapon. I think this is fantastic system.

I think cheesing by killing the first boss over and over might be an issue that should be addressed somehow, but I don't really see having to unlock slots as being all that much of an issue. It's just another avenue for advancement that further powers up your character, and gives you, I think, some interesting choices to make with a finite resource. Or at least a resource that's finite under intended gameplay circumstances.

Honestly, if people want to cheese the game by killing the first boss over and over I would even say let them. It sounds like kind of a boring grind for something that, at the end of the day, probably won't be exactly game-breaking.

Exactly, let people play how they want to. You can also get ICHOR by killing mobs. It will randomly drop

There's no point to the Ichor especially after you unlock all slots. Make it into a perk like system that gives you bonuses on certain playstyles or buffs or SOMETHING.

Make it part of a difficulty setting. If you want to explore to unlock all items choose that difficulty. You want other things unlocked, choose an easier difficulty. Since it is mostly single player realms, does it matter how the player chooses to play?

Point of this system is to have gradual progression and unique reward from killing key enemies throughout the gameplay. It's part of character growth just like levels, you are able to adventure for longer, you have more convenient options to change weapons and higher stats with stacked rings. It's same as flask quality and quantity in dark souls, it's growth and i find it to be more entertaining than it. If i really want to max out character i can just spam 1st boss on a new realm and do war room + twin bosses at shallows. Withing 3 hours i have maxed out on ichors. Its an option to do it that way, or you can do it the vanilla way, either is fine and it caters to different type of preferences except yours ...

You never specified whats not fun about it and how you would rather have it

Ya'll have too much time, by the time I've switched realms and back, 25% of my available playtime is over.

EA, limited availability of the game. I suspect full release will have higher tier weapons with more slots. Duh

1. Things being made less inconvenient isn't really much of a reward (unless it's something like unlocking fast travel).
2. It isn't at all like flask quality and quantity. Flask quality and quantity actually make you stronger. For it to be similar, it'd have to be something like recovering 25% more health when using food items.
3. It's not growth, it's just lessening your handicap.
4. It doesn't even take 3 hours. And since it's so easy to max out, why is it even there?

It's not fun to spend so much time managing my limited inventory or going back and forth to store and sell items. I want to fight monsters, collect cool loot, and get stronger.

I guess they wanted some sort of survival element in the game, but I predict this will be nerfed before full release. When the game is new and people are having fun, they might overlook this, but there's going to be more complaints just like with durability system which already got nerfed.
Phishfood Apr 24, 2024 @ 6:08pm
Having to get these things to expand the inventory slots to effectively make the game less annoying to play isn't my idea of player progression.
Megalithik Apr 24, 2024 @ 7:48pm
Incentive to take on the toughest enemies to farm ICHORE or whatever it's called.
