Don't blame people for feeling like ARPG means Isometric RPG, because it meant that for decades. Now if someone says "ARPG" I don't know what they actually mean, which makes it useless.
I really interested in if you guys see ARPG is a specific game type.
Diablo (like Wicked) is an isometric ARPG, with "isometric" just describing the PoV. There are still RPGs that are not ARPGs, like that little turn-based Baldur's Gate 3 game that snuck past everyone's radar fairly recently. /s
This game is not Roguelite. Just because the game could be difficulty, doesn't make it rogue directly.

For those lacking context, he's referring to a tweet Thomas Mahler made over a year ago:
"Our next project is going to be a make-or-break moment for Moon: Either we manage to revolutionize the ARPG genre or we'll slowly fade away into the distance. While that should be scared, I LOVE the challenge! Diablo, PoE, etc.: We're coming for you, may the best one win! :D"
And, of course, since then they have elaborated many times that they're unhappy with the direction the Diablo series eventually went and wanted to take ARPGs in a different direction with less spammy, more tactical combat. But apparently that information wasn't worth absorbing.
I'm curious what you thought "revolutionize the ARPG genre" meant, exactly. Like.. twice as much spam on the screen? Every mob dropping so much loot your inventory fills instantly? Conditional buffs that only activate every OTHER Tuesday? Even less storage space? (To be fair that last one is a Diablo issue and not PoE).
I guess I don't understand how you managed to catch one obscure tweet from a developer of Ori and the Blind Forest but somehow missed allllllll the other information available about this game. That is some pretty selective research.
If they were to take this combat system and slap it onto PoE1 (Something that was originally planned) would PoE1 suddenly stop being a ARPG/Diablo 2 clone?
It would just be the same old PoE with a proper combat system, no?
What i'm getting at is, I don't think dodge, block and parry is a genre. Its just a combat template that other genres are adopting.
Or maybe i'm wrong. I don't even know anymore.
PS: Moments ago I found a "unique" (gold) sword and sold it for peanuts at a vendor. Most PoE thing I ever seen.
