No Rest for the Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked

how is the keyboard and mouse experience
I play on the computer because I despise using controllers. just dont enjoy them.

This game seems very skewed to the point that theres an actual pop up when entering the game saying to use a controller.

Should I just refund the game?

it's playable with kbm but it's not ideal, the known issues post is saying they're working on improving it

I knonw I did. I'm like you, KBM guy for life.
I saw that popup and had a bad feeling right at the start. Then I saw you cannot rebind the keys and I was like... "eh.... screw it".
Wanted to ice the game until KBM is fixed, but then today I thought better and just refuded.
I'll maybe pick it up on sale a year or two from now. Hopefully the game will be fixed by then. There's so much other stuff to play anyway.

Most of the recent games I've played lately have done that. I think it's a Valve thing/part of a Steam update, as the suggestion is showing up now on games in my library that it didn't use to show up for.

The controls are the typical W = North, S = South, A = West, D = East. If you've played Tribes of Midgard, V Rising, etc, you're used to it. You can't rotate the camera view, though, which doesn't make it as fluid as in V Rising (since, in V, you can essentially steer with your mouse because of that).

What I find jarring is the fact that the mouse pointer position on the screen doesn't determine the direction your character is facing, which makes the character movements feel a lot more rigid than they would otherwise.

For example, you can't just run up to a door and (if the prompt isn't showing because your angle isn't just right) move your mouse to make your character rotate in place until the prompt to use the door shows up. You have to use the keys to reposition your character and try again. That's something I'd like for them to address, or at least offer as an option.

Trying to use WASD is very difficult. I tried it first but the game really is geared towards using the left joystick on a gamepad. I have a PC gamepad and it worked fine, the real problem is that I just found the game too hard for my liking so I got a refund. I am a casual player who just wants to play through games like reading a book. If I am going to die over and over in the approximate hour and a half per day I have to play then I lose interest. So refund it was,,,

or this. playing this kind of game is like debating to play FPS on controller. there are just games that gives much better experience using an intended device. that being said, i'm not sure what your beef with controllers is, but i hope you can look past that and enjoy the game with controllers :D

If they release a game on PC they should work on making the intended controls for PC, aka mouse and keyboard, work well for the game. I seriously don't get why they release a game on PC and can't make the controls work well for that the vast majority of PC users use. I ended up refunding the game before the 2 hour mark since more than half the difficulty with the game is fighting the controls on mouse and keyboard, lol.

How are people saying this game is better played with a controller? It's impossible to switch potions/food/oil while fighting while moving the character in a combat. With keyboard and mouse it's a breeze (can hold w/a/s/d+q/f and scroll with the mouse while moving/fighting). With a gamepad it's just impossible to control ANY movement, while having to hold the directional pad and then scroll while stopping attacking with the right hand. Game is really meant for keybaord+mouse, because with gamepad it's just impossible to do some of the actions required for easier fights.

had no significant issues playing with kb + mouse, my only gripe is with the design choice of not letting us jump whenever we want and having purely context sensitive climbing/jumping etc, there's also some diagonal and narrow platforming that would probably be a lot easier with controller, but for the most part the controls are reasonable for me personally. having said that though, not having rebind is pretty mind boggling even at this stage

Its bad, as you can not aim the movement with the mouse, so the only directions you can go is EWSN with wasd.. which is bad from the start as half the doors and stuff are positioned NE or SE or NW or SW... :( rip PC gaming, hope POE2 isnt like this.
