I saw that popup and had a bad feeling right at the start. Then I saw you cannot rebind the keys and I was like... "eh.... screw it".
Wanted to ice the game until KBM is fixed, but then today I thought better and just refuded.
I'll maybe pick it up on sale a year or two from now. Hopefully the game will be fixed by then. There's so much other stuff to play anyway.
Most of the recent games I've played lately have done that. I think it's a Valve thing/part of a Steam update, as the suggestion is showing up now on games in my library that it didn't use to show up for.
The controls are the typical W = North, S = South, A = West, D = East. If you've played Tribes of Midgard, V Rising, etc, you're used to it. You can't rotate the camera view, though, which doesn't make it as fluid as in V Rising (since, in V, you can essentially steer with your mouse because of that).
What I find jarring is the fact that the mouse pointer position on the screen doesn't determine the direction your character is facing, which makes the character movements feel a lot more rigid than they would otherwise.
For example, you can't just run up to a door and (if the prompt isn't showing because your angle isn't just right) move your mouse to make your character rotate in place until the prompt to use the door shows up. You have to use the keys to reposition your character and try again. That's something I'd like for them to address, or at least offer as an option.
