Difficulty compared to normal ARPG like Diablo4?

Hi folks,

I´m not that guy which is in love with games like elden ring. So pure soulslike games are not my field. But I like ARPGs. When its just a challenging ARPG and not a real soulslike its fine for me. Can you guys help me with that.

It's not ARPG. It's souls-like. The only thing that connects it to ARPG genre is the camera angle.

It’s pretty easy so far. When compared against D4 which is braindead easy however, Its hell. Dare not venture round these parts if thats what you're in search of stranger.

It's way way way harder than any hack and slash. It's not a traditional ARPG. It's rather slow, methodical and punishing. Any action in combat other than slow walk consumes stamina, you run out of stamina quickly and enemies are a lot more aggressive than in other APRGs.

For all intent and purposes it's "Dark souls with a top-down camera" in terms of combat.

Diablo 4 is bore fest trash. This game has WEIGHT in combat, has great parry and dodge system for devs whos 1st ever souls like game ever.

Watched some gameplay videos, gameplay & character customization is exactly Fromsoftware's Souls formular, but the dodging part seems easier due to top-down camera. Don't expect hack n slash your way out like Diablo or Darksiders Genesis

Yeah. It's primarily a soulslike. There's ARPG style loot with multiple affixes, but that's about it. Skills are tied to weapons (although there's a crafting system to switch components) rather than "trees". The only thing you allocate at level up is basic attributes (like Dark Souls).

Also, don't listen to the idiot soulshead saying it's easy. Maybe it's easy for someone who's been playing soulslikes for years, but it's at least as hard as earlier souls games. Maybe easier than Elden Ring tho.

Thats not true at all. So many people have misconceptions about what an aprg game actually is and repeat this talking point verbatim. Its in the name in that its simply an action game with rpg like mechanics. This means titles like: Dark Souls, Horizon, Dragons Dogma, etc are all arpgs. Thats right, contrary to popular belief arpgs are not exclusive to isometric diablo clones! I’m so sick of hearing this!

Combat is definitely souls style with top camera angle like people before have mentioned.

But i would still recommend giving it a try since it's also way easier than any of the Dark Souls Titles and Elden Ring IMO. Parry window is very generous and you can spam dodge / roll most enemies.

The Loot is also more ARPG like than in the souls games and i really like the crafting in this game.

I would not say it's easy since souls like combat brings a certain difficulty to the table all by itself but the combat mechanics are still way easier than any Dark Souls. Even DS1 where you could Build a freaking Poise Tank.

So don't quite agree with that statement but to each his own.

You’re describing an isometric view, which really has nothing to do with being an ARPG. Souls games are ARPGs, just ones with more punishing mechanics. This game is also an ARPG. So is Elden Ring. So is Diablo.

It only seems easier to you because you've already played a lot of souls games. For someone who doesn't play these types of games it's probably going to be hard (yes there are some people who are good at games who just haven't played any souls game who might find it easy, but this doesn't sound like who the OP is)

i didn't say the game is easy. it is not i agree with you on that. i just don't agree with the part of it being as hard as DS1/2/3 or elden ring that's all.

And you are right OP probably will find this quite hard i agree with you there too.

BUT IMO if he likes ARPG's and is willing to try a souls like game i think this would not be a bad entry since, again, i think it is easier than the fromsoft souls games.

There is no difficulty in this game. There is only tedium. Nothing is hard, it's just slow. So if you get impatient you will lose, but that's not difficulty.

Nah, I will play the way I want to play, spam skills, spam parry and die constantly and kill them with everything I got. Who cares about dodge roll when you can just charge attack and intterupt them all the time.

The enemy that will throw bombs at you is annoying, I guess I will need a different weapon and employ the same strategy, charge head first, charge attack and kill them quickly.

I am more of a Diablo playstyle fan than a Souls fan. Played both Genres, but prefer ARPGs above Souls like games.
This game is easier as the Souls games (Thank god) but has still certain flaws that need to be fixed during this Beta period. It is not in competition with D4, POE at all as its way to slow for this and not enough action.
