No Rest for the Wicked

[Rant] Randomized starting weaponry and Stamina
So I started with the claymore and I have to honestly say it's one of the least fun modes of play I could imagine. I think the mix of the low stamina (2 swings and I basically have 0 stamina to do anything and it doesn't even kill the enemy) plus weight and speed of the claymore makes it immensely unfun.

I spoke to a friend about it and they said they got the dual blades as a starting weapon and I went "???" since I didn't realize the loot was randomized at. You should honestly let the player choose their weapon at the beginning in some capacity (perhaps as some kind of loot chest at the beginning? You are on the captains ship, you hear fighting while resting, you grab a weapon quickly off the wall or a chest, and that's the weapon you use and wash up with) rather than just "this random weapon at the beginning is what you've got".

Also the stamina feels miserable. It feels like I can do an action and then I'm already exhausted and when I'm dealing with more than 1 enemy this basically just means I gotta space poke space poke and it feels pretty bad not being able to commit without extreme punishment, like I can space the enemies apart a bit then commit fully to an attack because 2 attacks = no stamina = I get hit by probably both enemies. This needs to be adjusted to some degree, the base honestly needs to be higher.

That all being said, just a positive I'll give; I really love the visuals for this game. Genuinely one of the prettiest games I've played in years. Great job in the art/visual department. I can tell there's a lot going on too since it makes my computer work like a horse.

I started with a one-handed sword. But I also found a mace, the dual daggers, a staff, and a spiked club thing. So I’ve at least encountered variety. I didn’t know that about the starting weapon randomization.

I also found the claymore first. Sword and board definately plays fluffier at the beginning. But to be honest, i am happy with my metal paddle. Maybe the ability to block would help? However, i always use two handers in these Games. There ist Just something about smashing a big ass piece of Steel in the face of your foe =} Besides, how else would i compensate for my smoll pp?

I wouldn’t mind the current method so much if you were able to respec your stats along the way. In order to use your highest DPS weapon, there are stat requirements. If I want to test out the weapon, I might be locked in if I can’t fix my stats for the next drop. This is my major ask!!

I like the random itemization overall, but get the criticism. I like how Lies of P handled it - by giving you 3 different weapon choices at the start, allowing you to begin to lean into a specific build/stats

I started with a freaking wooden stick and it sucks ass. You can cast spells with it but it's terrible

I wanted a sword but I got a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stick

Nope, just 10. I'd guess all the normal/gray weapons that can spawn first are all min req. I found an Ice Pick that requires 11 STR and 11 FTH that has some sort of fire spell attached a bit into the first area

One of the first weapons I found was a gold 2-hander than requires 22str- randomized loot is interesting, but seeing how much of a commitment testing something like that would be.\

My starting weapon was a sword and then a shield. Watching a content creator play with a 2-hander from the start, which looks more Soulslike- kill enemies in 3-4 whacks instead of the wet noodle I had.

The second weapon I found after the stick was literally a wooden sword. It's like the developers don't want you having a real weapon

I had zero weapons for about 30-40 minutes when I got off the boat. Cleared multiple packs and areas including mariners area...with my fists. I was wondering where all the freakin weapons are.

Started with the claymore and agree with everything you said. Makes it hard to want to push pass the opening level.

For me it was the opposite.. I felt like I was wielding a wet noodle until I found the claymore. I used it until I hit ~22 str for a saw blade. My brother also switched to the claymore, upgraded it and was just facerolling everything.

You lucky i got the staff only till level 3 and even then i when i got swords i was not the right level for them lol.

My main issue with the claymore is that most enemies don't seem to get staggered by its first attack. That said though, poise and stagger values all across the board could use some adjustments. No excuse for most enemies to not get staggered, especially when getting hit by a chonky 2 hander.
