Is there a chest in this game?

Where I can store my items/mats?....I'm full with useful stuff for future crafting but no idea where to store it.

When you start making your home. I believe you can create chests and store your items. but in the world itself don't think there is one.

You can after you reach the Rookery in a community chest.

Reach the Rookery and sleep in.
When you wake up chest in next to you.

It said anyone can take from the community chest. Where do you put items that you don't want to throw away?

This is community chest. So every player can take items from this one.
Do not use it as your personal chest :)

im up to that point and unlocked the community chest, but where can i go to get some personal storage lol? im just completely full of items, and doing any quests/ exploring seems absolutely pointless as i have no room to pick anything up rn

But right now it is no co-op and should not be an issue?
Also later when co-op is added it only an issue if you play co-op right?

COMMUNITY chest as it's named means COMMUNITY.

But MULTIPLAYER is not added now and will be LATER.

Therefore you CANNOT INVITE someone in your realm yet.

Therefore you CAN'T SHARE your community chest yet.

I read on reddit that you're able to create//build/upgrade a home for yourself and then you'll be able to place furniture such as "small chest" to store you personal items in.

You can indeed buy small chests of 10 slots and craft cupboards of 20 slots.
And a certain NPC do says that you may be interested into getting a home.

No you idiots. Yes it's a community chest but only to players who are in your realm. The one you name in the beginning of the game. So the only way people can take your mats is if u give someone the name of your realm and they join.

In my rroom with the community chest the placement is always red.

As i haven't reached the "get your home" yet and judging by your answer, i believe then that you can't place anything in the community room and therefore need to build a house.
Check with Danos, who knows ?
