How do you use a bow?
I've been trying for 15 min straight just trying to shoot one arrow, and no luck yet. I can see it equipped, when I hold down "control" it selects it towards the bottom of the screen, but that's as far as I've gotten. Every attack button just swings the sword instead.

That is very sad news, as i specifically started building an Archer build (after buying the first bow from the first vendor) with hope i can shoot arrows soon (full dex build). The assasin play style with the two knifes is okish, but does. not feel so powerfull as the stealth abilities until now are weak as well as the focus attack which most times does not target the enemy and misses...
But its a beta, i really hope we can get more freedom in builds. as an archer, mage or necro would be so awesome.

I am a fan of the battle mage concept. I've been using the gnarled staff with great enjoyment. With some points in focus and int I've been able to 2 shot some of the enemies o struggle with in melee.

so you must first somehow generate focus with melee to switch to ranged bow and use focus for shooting?

yes, same with casting spells. its so stupid, i had a 2 handed staff that did 0 dmg and 90% of to time no focus. i refunded the game

The staffs are actually pretty beefy to me atleast. They aren't zweihanders but I've been able to build focus up regularly and cast fire balls. Have no idea what channel does but increasing focus let's me stock up to three fireballs. The only thing I think needs to change is losing focus on death. You should be allowed to keep focus or start with full focus when you respawn. Or perhaps since it wants to arpg elements, we can find gear that gives focus overtime.

The skills (runes) can be extracted from one weapon and put onto another. I haven't experimented too extensively with the system yet but it seems to actually be very customisable. You can have ranged attack runes attached to melee weapons a friend of mine has a fire rune throwing their weapon at range and dealing a huge amount of damage while using a 2h sword.

The game doesn't want you to be able to stay at range safe and spam attacks (which would completely remove any challenge). I understand it's frustrating but it makes sense from a balance perspective.

Also the thief archetype is far from being bad as your gear's weight has major impact on how fast you move in general giving light characters a pretty massive advantage to dodges (which makes sense).

Overall I'd say if you prefer dodging go for light build, if you prefer guard go for heavy build and if you are in-between go for medium. Parry seems to be fine either way but is obviously riskier as a lighter build since you resist way less attacks.

Oh that's dope. I don't mind fighting in the thick as a mage type. Please tell me there is more than fireball. I would some lightning action lol.

The only way I've seen it possible to use the bow is to not have a primary weapon equipped unfortunately. I was going for a bow build as well. When I hit LB to look at my offhand skills it was only showing my primary weapon skills?

Yup. Lame system. Idk who came up with that but that's a terrible system. Why must I melee to be a mage or archer? Why even include those options if you're going to force people into melee to begin with?

+1 I think that brainstorm was more of a brain fart. Really poor system.
Buntkreuz Apr 19, 2024 @ 11:28am
Devs, Upgrade ranged weapons to primaries please.

Main fire mode could do lower damage primary shots, but generate focus. Focus then allows for stronger primary shots and other abilities.

Et voila, you can use the bow for primary as your main weapon, but still have the focus system.

But it def. needs to change. Im mostly a bow/crossbow/musket player.
(Are there muskets? If not, please add too.)

I've made a thread about it, you cannot use a bow if you're using a dual wielding daggers. Which imo it's pretty idiotic
