Personally won't buy until durability is removed
It's not a good system, no player likes durability in video games. The penalty for death in souls-likes is the time lost and consumables used before your death. In the souls games that DID have durability, you REPAIRED on death. Thank you for your time devs and please make the right decision <3

after going through the comments, we have one side saying "because darks souls has time wasting mechanics, then it's okay this game does" and the other side is simply saying durability in games are a pointless unrewarding aspect. which i agree with.

when i see durability i get nightmares of dead island and those AMAZING zombie games, that are IMO completely and utterly terrible, because i kill 5 zombies and my weapons broke.

but it seems in this game, if you die your weapon loses durability along with some minor bonuses that probably are more significant further in the game?

they could simply remove the durability system as it's pointless and simply there to waste peoples time to play longer, and replace the system with a debuff system to continue with the your weapon isn't nearly as impactful compared to 100% and you sleep to remove the debuffs.

TLDR. we gotta get past this "because this game does it and it's good then it's a good system." games are supposed to be fun, if I wanted to waste my time i'd get a second job. unfortunately i simply won't play this game.

Where's Fillmore after you reach Sacrament.... backtracking through the first zone with all the buffed enemies and all my equipment is broken again.

I play a lot of ARPG's and Souls games, durability as a concept died a decade ago in both genres.

Durability repairs on death? What Souls games have you played? Probably none, cause none of them have that mechanic. Dumbass

It's actually the souls players saying the latter part of your statement. Modern souls games use time loss as a punishment for death, but personally I would argue that they don't "waste" your time. Wasting a player's time is taking like 10 seconds to cut a tree down or dig a hole to get a resource. Or having to teleport back to town just to talk to an npc to get gear repaired and then port directly back to where you just were.

The people defending durability are just huffing a ton of copium.

I don't think either of those "sides" represents what I've been saying.

Look, games are filled with mechanics that are there not to be fun directly, but to instead keep the game fun by keeping the gameplay balanced. I don't enjoy encumbrance, harsh death penalties, inventory management, my warmth potion running out in the middle of a fight with Velkhana, or the rate at which I bleed out when I stub my toe exiting the ramp of an overpriced starship, but I understand these things exist in the game for a reason and deal with it. Life goes on.

If repairing gear is the biggest hot-button issue this game has I'd say that's incredibly promising.

By the way, there is a difference between something "not having a point" and someone not liking the point. Durability does have a point, as has been pointed out multiple times in this thread.

I really like the game, too bad I also suck at it and I died quite a lot after first leaving Sacrament (once the game really starts I guess). This resulted in my gear getting totally trashed numerous times and now I don't have the gold to repair. Kinda stuck until I git gud I guess :/ Wish they at least gave an option to disable durability.

Durability is a legit mechanic and adds to game economy, the original Dark Souls did it best with crystal weapons and higher degradation for weapon arts.

I have a feeling this is an andy who "thinks" he plays a lot of arpgs and souls likes. He prob just played all the souls games and thats it

Nothing you have said has justified the existence of durability. You said a bunch of stuff about enchantments which can simply be achieved in other ways or not exist at all. Like you said, there are other ways to build characters so what is it truly adding there? They can very easily continue to have death be a money sink by simply losing money on death. You're on the copium and I understand it's tough to get off, but I promise if they announced tomorrow "durability is removed from our video game forever" you will not miss it or feel as if the game is in any way worse for the removal.

I bet you also defend games running at 30 fps as being "more cinematic"

Go boot up dark souls 2, hit a wall with your weapon a few times, note your durability has been damaged. Go die. Check your weapon again. Note it now has full durability. Now take a second to think about the difference between a BROKEN weapon and a weapon that is simply missing some durability.
