No Rest for the Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked

How exactly does the input delay work?
I've been working on the first boss, trying to get better at parrying, so I go in, and I parry his attacks, as best as I can. No using stamina for anything else, focusing entirely on parrying The big left slash is a pain; I've never gotten the timing right on it, but I am at least presuming it's possible to parry. But sometimes I'll have an issue where I use parry, it doesn't seem to work, I get hit, sometimes several times, and then, after that, my character uses the parry.

Is this multiple parries that have been queued up? Did the attack drop? I can't tell if I even have the timing down, because from what I can see in the darkness and confusion of the fight, I'm trying to parry and the game simply doesn't recognize it happened until a second or so later.

Also, twice in a row now, I've entered combat, gone to dodge- not 'attack and get stuck in an animation, can't dodge', not 'out of stamina'- and seen the game drop frames as my character doesn't move and then gets struck. Is that supposed to be happening?

Well, I tried turning the screen size down from 4k to 1920x1080, and the input delay on parries became much less egregious, so if anyone else is running into that, it does seem to be a performance issue.

So many things it can be sadly, personally ive only had this happen to me Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, and it proved to be my controller, for some reason it had input delays because of...reasons i guess, bought an Elite and everything was fine. Years back my keyboard gave me input delays, can be anything from the drivers(if any) to the cord or bluetooth. Some googling might help you, reddit tends to have some smart people around when it comes to this stuff.

I know there are settings to decrease input delays in some games, but this game has pretty much no settings atm. IT can be a PC issue, it can be a game engine issue, or simply the input queue having a tantrum.

I know from Digital Foundries video that animation is separate from the actual fps, so it shouldnt be a problem, according to them. Inputs and animations should be as smooth in 30fps as they are at 100fps, unless i got that all wrong.

Parrying gives something for veterans to screw around with. Its pointless when first playing the game unless u wanna tank every single hit. Dodging is way more consistent.

I've not experienced this input delay, but I did watch this video a while ago where parrying the first boss is broken down in detail, frame by frame.

I personally only parry shield bearers, for the most part, to create an opening without having to dodge. I never parry bosses because they're too easy as it is and you just have to roll-swing-roll-move-repeat...
