Played on friend's pc after he couldn't get passed first boss then gave up and uninstalled
First boss way too hard. Spent around 2 plus hours trying everything to defeat it. There needs to be an easy to medium to hard setting. Won't recommend the game unfortunately. I had the two handed sword. Tried parrying. Didn't work. Tried to sprint and roll. Stamina kept being used up plus whenever i hit I'd stand there for a few seconds not moving due to large sword. Ridiculous. Beautiful game but too hard and I'm a seasoned gamer.

I don't think you're all that seasoned if you can't beat it.

takes like 9 throwing bombs to kill him. Also I wouldnt recommend big sword Vs him. Its to slow.

This game is actually pretty brutal for me, and I don't usually complain about game difficulties..but the first boss? Really dude? Took me 6 minutes.

Actually, claymore is quite a good weapon to learn the game, since it forces You to understand its mechanics, and to plan ahead. It's still quite easy to defeat the first boss with it, and the loop is pretty standard: wait for the boss to attack (attacks are very well signaled), dodge/roll away, slash once (with claymore there are relatively few occasions when You have time to slash twice at that point), dodge away, let Your stamina regenerate. Rince and repeat. Claymore slashes hard, so the fight is over within a couple of minutes.

But if You don't like claymore, there are so many other options. You can even beat the boss easily with bare hands.

What I would discourage, however, is getting beyond medium load for the fight. For me, going light works the best...
