Enemy balance after beating story.
So, it seems, unless I'm entirely missing something, that the zones all switch to "Dangerous" difficulty after you beat the current end boss and unlock crucible. The issue there is that they are, or were, prior to today's hotfix, dropping level 21 gear. So, I finished story at level 13, I'm level 14 now, and the mobs in every zone hit harder than the boss does. I'm thinking the zones are not supposed to scale from I think it was normal or average, to dangerous. Essentially I think it's not dynamically scaling with your level, and for some reason gets statically set to a higher difficulty after defeating the story boss. Makes it pretty impossible to actually level if I'm being honest, especially fighting 2-3 mobs at a time. I know there's a save thing where you can go back and fight mobs on old saves, but I assume you lose town progress by doing so, and anyway, why would that be a valid solution, messing with save files? Anyway, please let me know I'm missing something. Thanks!

I hope this is just a workaround and not the official solution to not having dynamic scaling or difficulty settings. I do appreciate the potential solution for now though, I'll work on that a bit since I'm liking the game, but let's hope they come up with something better lol. Thanks!

Pretty sure they will.
Get yourself a sword throw all ice runes (Ice throw must) +ice gem on gloves and just throw your wep twice into a single mob or pack helps a ton. Intelligence user is a plus but not really needed. And sock up on bombs. Cheese it a bit until you get a comfortable level and gear.

I mean sure, I feel I explored thoroughly, but there's plenty of people who finish the story around my level too. The range I've even just seen on reading forums is 12 or 13-16 generally. Which also doesn't address the scaling, well, issue, we'll call it.

unless I'm missing something obvious I also finished the bosses at level 13. I actually did Riven Twins first as I missed Dorak, then went back and did that mission (not even sure if this is the correct progression path or not, but he felt much easier than Riven Twins did). Now I'm attempting crucible at Level 15 and getting owned pretty hard. I wanted to go and farm materials to upgrade some of the stores but ya the mobs are now on sterioids, which is quite annoying. Balance is a big issue at the moment, as well as level progression/difficulty scaling, but Im sure they will sort this out in time.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm sure they'll fix it, as I did the new realm suggested idea for leveling, but mobs give such low experience (literally 1 for starting area mobs, which makes sense as it's "safe" difficulty and the beginning), that I don't want to waste my time doing that. I'll just wait for a fix and play other stuff in the meantime. Remnant 2 update and Granblue fantasy relink update came out so there's a few other things to keep me busy atm. Hoping for an update soon though, want to get to build testing!

You can run "endgame" areas with whatever level on your character tbh. Upgrading your weapon and dodging ftw.

Same issue here, OP. I finished current story, having done all bosses, at level 13-14 (about 15 hours played? Maybe a bit more?) Crucible I get stomped. Open world I get stomped. People say just keep farming and youll get better gear but you dont. You get level 21+ gear that you cannot equip and you die every other minute.

Like you Im faced with two choices: level in a new world (lame... and a absolute necessity that they address this) or put the game down until something changes.

When I finished current story I had no difficulty killing enemies, and I even went to the crucible at level 16, without any problems (except the boss). Just upgrade your weapon to Tier 3 and be :steamhappy:

a tip, you can upgrade weapons with low status requirements, Tier 1 weapons up to tier 3 only with materials that are sold at the forge, basically, and they have the same damage as tier 3 weapons (applies to armor too) , you will only spend more resources. However, with weapons alone you can kill any enemy, just dodge/ parry

To those that can walk around the open world easily after MSQ, could you share your armor stats?

OK, update! So Krierg is correct, upgrading your weapons if you have the resources will help. If you don't have them, like I didn't, getting the resources to upgrade your weapon/blacksmith and enchanter and such, but mainly blacksmith to be able to buy higher level armor/weapons if you aren't happy with what you do have but used it to finish the game or something (like me), can prove very difficult, and you just have to grind it out a mob at a time. I wasn't able to grind in crucible at level 14 with tier 1 stuff to do this obviously, but am level 18 now and have slowly but surely gone around and gathered, through a decent amount of either deaths or having to flee to a different area until I could juice up enough. It is doable, but your situation may require you to do what I did if you don't want to use one of the other workarounds people posted above, or just wait and see if they intend to do anything about the scaling or not. I just didn't feel like it and decided to be hard headed.

Yeah this needs balancing, I beat the story and unlocked crucible, can't even make it past the first encounter (also having a blind lethal drop right at the entrance of mine was messed up but hilarious).

When I try go back to mariners keep I can't get back through the main gate as there are 3 red uniformed enemies, one sniping me wherever I try fight the other two that block everything. Dual daggers and maxed out at level 2 since I can't find the ingredients I need (also what weight is everyone running? Surely everyone isn't dumping levels into equip load? I can't run anything other than daggers without going into heavy)
