EQUIPMENT LEVELING
So I finally get a cool armour set (This game is yet another RPG/MMO that suffers from "stupid looking hat syndrome") and spend lots of time and resources getting it to level three and then in some random chest in the woods I get a drop for a raggedy shirt/dress that is considerably better than what I spend ages leveling. So what's the effing point in leveling your gear when you can just wait for something better to drop?

I think the MMO/ARPG advice is don't level anything until your're max level?
From the souls side it's wear whatever looks cool! That's what gave you the motivation in the first place

That's a wrong advice, at least if you want to have a fairly pleasant normal run. You definitely should level up you immediate gear, instead of waiting for perfect drop - that might never come. It's not like souls where you might get stuck with used up smithings - resources in Wicked are farmable and renewable.

i think the problem the game has is that you're leveling up way too quickly. like i got a blueprint for a level 11 leather set. i got enough materials to craft 2 things out of the set and now im lvl 23, wearing a much better set and i still don't have enough stag materials to craft that level 11 set lol. they definitely need to adjust the rng for crafting stuff.

Gear from higher level is not necessarily better tho. Not in stats at least - the main difference comes with moveset and weight-to-armor ratios, also (for weapons) the default rune. You can take your usual blood rusted sword to late game farming if you like the moveset, range and its weight, just upgrade it. The same for armor (which you will be recycling A LOT, since you want your armor with the sweet purple buffs).
