Report a translation problem
I did entertain the idea it could be because of Resistance, as in some RPGs where for example an Undead with 200% Poison resistance would be healed from poison damage, but I don't think that's the case here. (e.g assuming for example the Thistle did Fire DMG to self)
Became a lot stronger when deciding to try it out on a Plate Armor/Greatsword Build.
This is probably the worst advice I have seen here. I use double Thistle Rings currently, as after todays patch (#5) the Plagued Rings don't work as well. I am able to boost my healing effects up to +98% with normal gear I have farmed or enchanted, and out-heal the Knight at the end of the Crucible due to damage done = healing.
YMMV
