One tip that stuck with me was to parry a second before you think you need to. Hard to wire my brain that way but it actually did help. Keep in mind I am definitely no pro on the subject of parrying!
I've found that the animations are a clue too - most foes have some sort of wind up animation before they strike. If you time your parry when the wind up ends and they 'throw' the attack forward it seems to get it pretty reliably for me.
When I think I get the timing right, the next time I try the same thing, it doesn't work.
It's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating.
It's gotten to the point, that I just don't wanna play it anymore.
Sadly I got 7 hours of playtime, otherwise I would have requested a refund...
Current bosses are easy enough to roll around, no reason to risk eating a combo from them with parrying
Though most enemies with easy parry options are also easy to backstab, it is what it is
If you're used to parrying in the Souls games/Elden Ring, you're probably parrying too early- at least I know I was. Those games have a few windup frames for the parry which I don't think NRFTW has.
So you don't parry just before an attack hits you, you parry right as it lands instead.
Seems to work better for me, anyway.
I'm gonna try what some said here and see if it is any better.
There are multiple factors that need to be met, before you can parry
- No animation playing
- Focus/stamina enough
- Looking in direction of the enemy
Agree
Maybe this Video could help some ppl ! Hf boyz

Sucks when you have the feature in the game, but people will just roll, cause the benefit and ease of use is just better overall.
I do not mind having to be precise to parry, that is the fun of it, but parrying has to reproduce consistent results, has to be reliable when done correctly and you should not have to spend hours after hours just to be able to read some trash mob animations.
It should just be more consistent.
