The last update drastically reworked the stamina system. Making it much more forgiving.

I just got the game on GOG and I really don't get the stamina system (ended up coming here to look for a solution). I'm struggling to make sense of the stamina system with the exclusion of a map along with metroidvania-style levels and the checkpoints among so many other things that are a part of the game. I don't think that its current iteration actually supports the majority of the game's mechanics and gameplay loop, so disabling it feels like a massive night-and-day change improvement.
I think that a rewarding stamina system (whereby it doesn't penalise you upon full use but - instead - rewards you for keeping your stamina for fights with more attack and reload speed and damage) makes more sense.
