How do I destroy the roots?

All I know is that I have to do it with "Fire and Force". I tried using both explosive ammo and explosive boxes/barrels and it does nothing. Do you know how to or should I wait until it goes out of early access to get an ability/weapon that does that?

Set the nodules on fire with Inflame and then attack them with any other weapon.

I've set the thingies on fire with Inflame then destroyed them with Discharge, but nothing happened. Is it bugged or there are more thingies to destroy?

UPDATE: Restarted the game and reached the tree again, it was in the same state I left it in, the nodules are destroyed. Looks like I'm stuck.

There is a fourth nodule higher up on the flesh tree, you can see at the top of your screenshot
