I might have my games mixed up try it to be sure.
You can set up a second base with a minimal amount of useful workbenches, stable, warrior camp etc pretty easy. Mine only has basic refining benches and basic weapons bench etc and I cart all processed goods back to my main base.
It's not what you are after but it's as close as you can get with this game. I don't think actual portals to enable quick travel are going to happen. Be nice if Boundary Markers had this but I don't see these guys actually making something easier. Not when they have such interminable grinds for skills and stuff. Seems doing things the hard way is the name of the game.
On private servers w/e but on hosted servers i dont like the idea. All i did here was disagreed and offered a counter POV, dont lose your ♥♥♥♥ and go all agro
Want to take more with you? You can use those 3 NPCs with 900 command to control 3 different horses. You can now transport 7 NPCs with you and 16k+ weight worth of stuff. You'll be a bit more vulnerable since NPCs ride slowly and get stuck often but it's possible.
Don't have a decent horse? On official servers a decent horse costs <30k copper. 30k copper at level 60 with a decent guild is 2 days worth of donations at a boundry marker. with a low level guild it shouldn't be more than 3 days. That's a horse with over 1k speed AND 1k carry weight.
This game needs a fast travelling system as you just proved.
It wont happen. I get your point but it's just not that type of game. I know it wouldn't bother a PvE server like it would a PvP server but even so it's simply not in the spirit of the game.
If 30 minutes of riding really wigs you out then I can't imagine you are enjoying any of the other pointlessly long processes this game has. Everything in this game is slow and takes far longer than any reasonable person would expect but it is what it is.
This game is basically PvP with PvE tacked on as an afterthought. It's the poor cousin. There are so many of the PvP systems bleeding through to PvE that make a lot of things awful and if they can't be bothered sorting any of that out I can't see them creating portals for PvE only.
I am not really against the idea of portals I just don't see it happening when they already have so many systems in the game already that allow you to do almost the same thing albeit with some effort setting it up. Still gotta transport bulk between bases but I for one don't find it too bad as it is. That said I would use them if they put them in. Not sure what that says about me though. I wouldn't ask for them, and I wouldn't even advocate for them, but if everyone else convinces them to put them in I wouldn't refuse to use them on principal.
30 minutes isn't much. 30 minutes is also on the high end. It encourages planning. You shouldn't be going across the map for a few small items. Plan to do something else on the way there also. Take some treasure maps, fire off some arrows and raise your bow skill. As I said you shouldn't be dodging enemies. If you have even a half decent horse wolves and bears shouldn't even be able to touch you. You'll outrun them even with a wagon. Tigers maybe, but again with a wagon behind you they'll focus so much on the wagon they won't even hit you unless you make a really bad turn or slow down for a while.
I spend a half an hour to 2 hours a day down at my old base. All the supplies I need for that base are there, I gather what I need while I'm down there and put all the stuff I gather for the new base, generally grass as it's a rainforest base, in a cabinet and once a week I make the trip to take things back up. I fast travel between the bases, get the supplies I need do what I need in that base.
I didn't prove you need a fast travelling system just that it's a game feature you don't like. Here's another alternative, get a guild and find someone who does like the travelling. if there's anything you need at the old base find a way to produce it at the new base. My largest reason for using the old base is to collect grass. If I hated the trip I wouldn't collect grass at the old base and just collect it slower at the new one.
